Kobold Press Prepared 2 Adventure Collection: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Prepared 2 is the latest in the series of one-shot adventure products for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons published by Kobold Press. This product was released as an aid to Game Masters who might be caught short when players take a campaign in an unexpected direction. I’m sure we can agree that such an event is common. Therefore, such a resource would or should be invaluable. To fully ascertain whether or not Prepared 2 fills the bill, it’s important to look at it from several angles.

Out of the Box D&D Encounters, Series 2, #20 – “Spear of the Gods”

Out of the Box Introduction

Adding depth, mystery, or lore to a setting can only help it. Searching through dusty tomes and scrolls isn’t the way many adventurers prefer to do so, though. A Dungeon Master can add this depth through the right encounter, especially if the image is striking.
Give the players pause, and you’ll motivate the player characters. Most have a natural curiosity that will propel that learning forward. Better still, they won’t know they’re learning a history lesson, because it will be in the form of an adventure and exploration.

D&D Goes Sci-Fi with Hyperlanes

Since making the transition to full-time writer, Ryan Chaddock shows no signs of slowing down. Already a prolific writer with a sizable selection of material for Cypher System-powered games Numenera and The Strange, Chaddock elevated his efforts when he launched his first Kickstarter for Swans of Black. More recently, creating content under the Scrivened LLC brand, Chaddock and colleagues enjoyed an incredibly successful Kickstarter for Hyperlanes, following up with Hellscapes.

Voice Acting In Roleplaying Gaming for Everyone

Voice acting in gaming

I have been cast for an upcoming voice acting gig, and this made me think of how this applies to gaming. At first glance I noticed the only one who gets into this at many tables is the one who runs the game. Though with the rise of broadcasts and live streams of gaming such as Maze Arcana and Scarlet Sisterhood, this is going away a bit but the question is why you should put in the amount effort needed to bring a character to life?

MARVEL RPG

Marvelous Phile: Marvel Super Heroes RPG Live Game Play Chat is Good Karma

Hey, guys, Professor Bill here and it’s time to start off the Marvel Super Heroes Roleplaying Game the right way by revamping the old Marvel Philes that used to run out of Dragon Magazine. We’re going to call this the Marvelous Phile (to avoid copyright).

So let’s talk chat participation (because my editor, Doug, is the boss and he promised torture if I didn’t obey. (Do you think he reads these?) [EDITOR’S NOTE: Yes, Prof. He does ;)]

How D&D Beyond Revealed the Elegance of a Classic D&D Fighter

It’s no secret how big a fan I am of D&D Beyond, the digital toolset from Curse. All the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons content from Wizards of the Coast is in one place with amazing connectivity. One of the most exciting facets of DDB is the Campaign feature. Dungeon Masters can organize players and adventuring material together in one place. There’s some really cool stuff DMs can do with the Campaign tools already, but I’ll get more into the DM side of things in a later installment, using a certain Space Pirate-fighting bounty hunter’s adventures as an example. For now, I want to talk about being a player in a DDB campaign.

Blast from the Past: Phantasy Star

There’s a school of thought floating around out there suggesting whatever a person is into when they’re 12 years old will stick with them the rest of their life. I’m a believer of this notion. Personal experience and ad hoc research (i.e. asking around here and there) bears it out.

So it’s no surprise that Phantasy Star II holds a place of reverence in my nerdy heart.

Want More 5E D&D Monsters? How About Limitless Monsters?

In case you missed it, not only are Nerdarchist Ted’s weekly top picks from Kickstarter a thing here on the website, we put the spotlight on one Kickstarter in particular – Limitless Monsters from Limitless Adventures.
The campaign for Limitless Monsters continues until Oct. 28, 2017. Check out what the campaign has to offer and see what else Limitless Adventures has to offer on the Kickstarter page here.
RollPlay roundtable

RollPlay Roundtable Digs Deep into D&D with Matt Mercer, Adam Koebel, Mike Mearls and Matt Colville

In case you missed it, a very thought-provoking event took place on Oct. 9, 2017 for anyone in the Dungeons & Dragons or tabletop roleplaying game community.

Hosted on the itmeJP YouTube channel. Adam Koebel moderated a roundtable discussion including fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons co-creator and creative lead Mike Mearls, Critical Role Dungeon Master and voice actor Matt Mercer and video game writer and author Matt Colville, whose popular YouTube channel and presence in the D&D community has had a powerful impact on the hobby.

RollPlay Presents: A 5E Roundtable Discussion began with a deceptively complex question.

D&D Worldbuilding – Getting Players to Help with RPG Creation

Over on the Nerdarchy YouTube channel, there’s a whole playlist of videos devoted to tips, advice and insight for worldbuilding. Creating a setting for your fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons campaign – or any tabletop RPG – is an exciting part of the game for many players. Even if you use an established setting like Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Dragonlance or Dark Sun, the people, places and events in your game shape the shared imaginative space and make it unique.
