Celebrating Zombie Orpheus Culture at ZOECon – Convention Coverage Part 2

ZOECon 2018 has come and gone about three weeks ago. The memories are still able to cause this old descendant of the Vikings to smile. Nonetheless, Asa Kinney and I got the opportunity to interview several members of the Zombie Orpheus Entertainment and Dead Gentlemen crew. Most of these interviews ended up on camera, and that is exactly what I am here to tell you about today. Check out the videos we shot of these interviews below. Sorry I was already falling to “Con Crud” but thankfully Asa stayed healthy.

ConCoction convention D&D

Mixing It Up at Cleveland ConCoction

The crew is back home, recovered from daylight savings time and the wonderful experience at Cleveland ConCoction where Nerdarchy was the featured guest for gaming, reinvigorated and ready to keep rockin’ and rollin’. We want to give a huge thanks to Tony and the rest of the organizers and volunteers from the convention who reached out to invite us there, the Bertram Inn and Conference Center for providing great accommodations and facilities for the convention, and all the fans and nerdy folks who attended. We had a great time!

Zombie Orpheus Entertainment ZOECon

Celebrating Zombie Orpheus Culture at ZOECon – Convention Coverage Part 1

A long time ago in a city far, far away… from you… I entered a bastion of nerd culture known as a Comic Book Store. Having been to this store many times, I was rather surprised to find a crew setting up equipment. Being the person I am, I leaped at the opportunity to aid them. When it was all said and done, I asked the shopkeeper what was going on. It was in that moment that I was introduced to the world of Dead Gentlemen and later Zombie Orpheus Entertainment. It was in that moment, 10 years ago now, that the banging of a DVD case against counter by that shopkeep, and the handing of it over with statement of, “Here, keep this damaged product,” started a fire within to see where this adventure ends.

ZOECon and Me, A Quick Look Ahead at the Zombie Orpheus Entertainment Convention

Hey Nerdarchy, staff writer Asa here, fresh from my adventure at ZOEcon. For those of you who don’t know, Zombie Orpheus Entertainment are the creators and producers who brought us Journey Quest, Dark Dungeon and Masters of the Metaverse. They are also the people responsible for The Gamers. Now that we are all caught up let’s talk ZOEcon, a convention to celebrate their fans and creators.

Greetings all! Welcome to my third installment of Fantasy Grounds College, get to know our staff. My third interview is with a veteran member of the FGC, Dragon. A Game Master and professor, he can be found speaking third person (as all venerable dragons do) in our Discord server teaching classes and passing on his infinite wisdom to all those who will listen.  In addition to his relentless dedication to the students at Fantasy Grounds College, Dragon also has an affiliation with Nerdarchy as our representative on their Discord server. He serves as our onsite expert for Fantasy Grounds College in their #Fantasy-Grounds channel under Virtual Tabletop.

RollPlay roundtable

The RollPlay Roundtable Discussion: Part 2 with Matt Colville, Matt Mercer, Adam Koebel and Mike Mearls

In October of last year, itmeJP gathered together some of the best known names in the Dungeons & Dragons community and put them in a video call roundtable together to talk shop. Adam Koebel moderated the conversation between Matt Mercer, Mike Mearls, and Matt Colville. Topics ranged across many different aspects of the game: criticisms, advice for Dungeon Masters, why we play the game, and many more.

Strongholds & Streaming Kickstarter from Matt Colville Raises the Bar

Just over two years ago, John Wick’s 7th Sea: Second Edition Kickstarter smashed through the barriers of roleplaying game potential, becoming the first campaign of its kind to surpass the $1 million mark. Among contemporaries in the RPG space, consistent hits from Monte Cook Games and Richard Thomas, along with extraordinary successes from Evil Hat Productions, Modiphius, Kobold Press, Frog God Games and others illustrate the possibilities of crowdfunding. And with the meteoric launch of Strongholds & Streaming, the first Kickstarter project from Matt Colville, we will almost certainly see the bar raised even higher.

The Best Time to Be a Nerd: How Amazon and Twitch Make It Easy

With the Amazon purchase of Twitch in August of 2014, many eyebrows were raised in confusion and fear the mega-corporation would tarnish the platform. Many nerds, geeks, and gamers found Twitch to be a safe haven where they could watch their favorite streamers play video games, interact with communities, and engage in the sphere of geekdom in all its flavors and colors. And with the introduction of Amazon into the picture, people believed that safe haven would disappear into the aether to be replaced by profit margins and the ever-reaching hand of big business.

But now as we enter 2018, it’s clear over the past four years the platform has been bolstered, not bloodied, and the geek community has more opportunities to not just survive, but thrive, in the modern world.
