Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e The Paladin

paladinHello fellow Nerdarchists, Art here. I’m back with the next installment of my series Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e. If you missed my previous article on the Monk just click HERE.

Today we are upholding our vows with…the Paladin!

AS always I’d like to talk a little about the class and its’ uses in multi classing. First I think the paladin can be the most effective “Tank” in the game due to the new content in the Sword Coast Adventure’s Guide with the Oath of the Crow Paladin class path. Being able to force opponents to attack only you can be quite a strong ability. When multi-classing you can combine the Paladin’s ability to smite with other class features to create some insane damage combos as I’ll give you a few here. Also the Paladin can be a great healer with their “Lay On Hands” abilities to keep other characters up in a fight even if its only healing for a few points at a time just to get them up and out of danger. It also lets the Paladin be very hard to kill due to their ability to cast Cure Wounds as well, combined with their Lay on Hands. Now on with the builds…

Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e (The Cleric)

dungeons & dragonsOne quick note, this article come after the release of Sword Coast Adventures Guide, so my article will contain builds including content from that book as well. If you missed my last article on the Bard click HERE to take a look. Today we are going to prey to the gods with… The Cleric

I’d like to start with a quick overview of the Cleric so I can clear up a few issues with the class as a whole.

To start off, the Cleric as a class falls off at eighth level due to the class features only coming from the domains themselves. There is no base class feature at later levels. Also, the ability to cast Revivify as a third level spell removes most of the need for Raise Dead. With this I feel that the Cleric when multi-classed with any other primary spell caster is the best option sense the multi-class spell slot chart on page 165 of the Player’s Guide still allows for the same amount of spell slots needed to cast higher level heals and party buffs. With that explained let’s get started.

Multi-class Character – The Cleric

Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e (The Bard)

BardHello fellow Nerdarchests, Art here. I’m back with the second installment of my series Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e. If you missed my previous article on the Barbarian just click HERE!

Today we are going to be singing along with… The Bard

Allot of you may think of the Bard as a musical little nuisance at the game table from previous D&D editions. In 5th Edition the Bard has taken quite a dramatic turn. They have become both a healer as well as one of the highest damage dealers at lower levels. They are in my opinion the most versatile class in the game by far.

How do You Play a Bard?

Creation of the Golden Chimera – Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition

Dungeons and DragonsLong ago I came up with this creature.  Inspired by the regular Chimera I set out to make something personnel and cool.  I never truly gave it a name because it was more of a unique creature in my mind then one of many.  But over the years the idea has changed and grew.

Now Nerdarchy did a video on the chimera For Dungeons and Dragons, you can watch that below, and I talked about my version.  The Golden Chimera like the regular has the head of a lion and a dragon.  The lion looks more regal than vicious.  The dragon is that of a gold dragon rather than that of a red dragon.

Would You Use this in Dungeons and Dragons?

Game Master Tips – Giving your Players Agency in Your Campaign

Game Master TipsNerdarchist Ted here and today we are going to be talking about Dungeon master tips or game master tips for your Dungeons and Dragons game, or what ever RPG you play.  So for those of you who are unfamiliar with this concept, lets ask the question, What is Player Agency?

Player Agency is when you allow a player to actually control the on goings of a story for a portion of the time or to create something and you allow them to run with it.  Technically when a player makes a back story for their character they are doing so with agency but with most groups it actually ends there.

Do you use Player Agency in your RPG?

Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition – Custom Race – Boarks

Dungeons and DragonsNerdarchist Ted here and I get to present you an entirely new race created by Nerdarchy.  Over on YouTube we do a video series called Fast and Dirty Monsters.

We take an idea for a new monster and open up our Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition Monster Manual and show you how to take a thing that already exists and change it to match our creation.

You can jump below to watch the video of how we made these pig people.

Boarks in 5th edition

Boarks are a race of gluttonous pig people.  The term pig headed would most apply in more ways then one.  They are possessed of an tapped well of determination.  Once they are set upon a path they will not waver short of their own decision to alter their course.

Guest Post – Class Options For Your Steampunk 5th Edition Game – The GM’s Table

SteampunkHey guys, it’s Bobby from The GM;s Table.  You can check out my blog here.  Or catch me on facebook over here.
One of the great additions to Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition is the addition of sub classes. They let you toys with new class options without having to completely reinvent the wheel. With that in mind here are a couple option for the Bard, Fighter, and Rogue for you more steampunk or Eberron style magic and science setting.

Steampunk Class options for 5th Edition

Note: With the steampunk concept it is assumed that you would be using the firearms rules from the DMG.

Svirfneblin Bard – D&D Character build 5th edition – Outkast

character buildGreetings Nerdarchists.  Nerdarchy is looking to launch another game into our schedule.  If you missed our session zero feel free to watch the video below.  My character build for that Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition  game is a deep gnome bard.

Now bards in previous editions really did not appeal to me.  I think before 5th edition I had only played one bard in approximately 20 years of playing Dungeons and Dragons.  5th edition on the other hand really changed my mind.  I have played in less than 10 campaigns in the year since the release of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition and 2 of those characters have been bards.  So what does that say about them?

Dungeons and Dragons character build

So with this character build for 5th edition, my goal was to make a well rounded character.  He has a few things that he would be good at, excel at really because of expertise but be a support character all around. As this race class combination is a sub-optimal character build it fits.

Otherworldly Patron – Custom Warlock – Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition

dungeons and dragonsNerdarchy did a video talking about warlocks and we did a video talking about dragon familiars.  On that second video we talked about the possibility of a Warlock choosing a Dragon as their otherworldly Patron.

In order to go into detail on this you have to examine what the warlock is in 5th edition.  The warlock is a being being imbued with magical power from another source. The power extended to the warlock comes with some unwritten price that the player and the dungeon master can work out or through before and during game play.

Path of the Primal – Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Custom path for Barbarian

Custom pathNerdarchist Ted here and last week I brought you an article talking about the circle of the swarm druid.  I did this because Dungeons and Dragons has lots of archetype options for other classes but Druid and Barbarian seem to get the short end of the stick.

So I took care of Druid last week so now I will take care of Barbarian, or at least give you another option for your barbarian character in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.

Primal barbarian for 5th edition

The primal barbarian is a weapon unto itself.  They rarely need the trappings of civilization to survive.  They thrive in the wilderness.  They are one with it and at the same time feel that they are above it and in some ways rule it.

Playing RPGs with New Gamers

game master tips role playing gamesGreetings Nerdarchist Ted here and if you are a regular visitor to our site you will know that today should be a Goblin comic.  But Nerdarchist Ryan celebrated Star Wars day with a great comic so we actually launched that one on Monday.
