Otherworldly Patron – Custom Warlock – Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition

dungeons and dragonsNerdarchy did a video talking about warlocks and we did a video talking about dragon familiars.  On that second video we talked about the possibility of a Warlock choosing a Dragon as their otherworldly Patron.

In order to go into detail on this you have to examine what the warlock is in 5th edition.  The warlock is a being being imbued with magical power from another source. The power extended to the warlock comes with some unwritten price that the player and the dungeon master can work out or through before and during game play.

D&Dized – Avengers – What Would the Avengers Look Like in 5th Edition

5th editionHello and Welcome to Nerdarchy.  I am Nerdarchist Ted and today I am going to give you the ability to play your favorite Avengers in your game of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.

We started a new series where we take a popular fictional character and see what we think his levels would need to be in order to play and feel like the character you see in the comics and movies.

For this series we are fully going to the Epic levels which we have no rules for beyond boons.  So we wan to give them the class features of Dungeons and Dragons we see used on a regular basis.

Path of the Primal – Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Custom path for Barbarian

Custom pathNerdarchist Ted here and last week I brought you an article talking about the circle of the swarm druid.  I did this because Dungeons and Dragons has lots of archetype options for other classes but Druid and Barbarian seem to get the short end of the stick.

So I took care of Druid last week so now I will take care of Barbarian, or at least give you another option for your barbarian character in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.

Primal barbarian for 5th edition

The primal barbarian is a weapon unto itself.  They rarely need the trappings of civilization to survive.  They thrive in the wilderness.  They are one with it and at the same time feel that they are above it and in some ways rule it.

Circle of the Swarm – Dungeons and Dragons Custom circle for Druid in 5th Edition

Dungeons and DragonsHello fellow gamers, Nerds or nerdarchists.  However you deem to call yourself it is I, Nerdarchist Ted here and today I bring you some more class options for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.

With all the free play test information that WOTC is putting out they are neglecting one of the coolest classes: Druids.  Druids throughout history have been wild and mysterious.  They have always been powerful in Dungeons and Dragons, and 5th edition is no exception.  While some of the cool abilities in 3rd have been neutered they still have a lot of power at their disposal.

But one thing they  lack is choice.  Most classes in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition have 3 or more options to choose from when they have to pick an archetype, path, school or what have you.  But the druid only gets 2 choices.  The Sorcerer only has 2 as well but with the Unearthed Arcanna they have released 2 other choices:  Favored soul and Storm borne.

Playing RPGs with New Gamers

game master tips role playing gamesGreetings Nerdarchist Ted here and if you are a regular visitor to our site you will know that today should be a Goblin comic.  But Nerdarchist Ryan celebrated Star Wars day with a great comic so we actually launched that one on Monday.

So that shifted my usual articles back a day.  So here we are with me on a Wednesday.

New players at your role playing game offer an assortment of challenges as well as an assortment of boon.  Now sadly I am not talking about Epic boons bestowed upon you when you reach 20th level but they are advantages never the less.

Bullywug Playable Race for 5E D&D

customized raceNerdarchsit Ted here and today we get to hop into a new customized race in tribute to the game run at Philly Games con by Nerdarchist Ryan.  His game went over so well that people wanted to know how to use a Bullywug as a playable race in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.

Bullywug – customized race in Dungeons and Dragons

Bullywugs have a rich culture presented in the Monster Manual.  They will grovel and debase themselves in the presence of their superiors and will use cunning and murder to try and climb up the political ladder of their community.

Forging Runes — 5E D&D Magic Item

customized magic itemsNerdarchist Ted here and thanks for checking this article out.  I am  going to go a little more in depth on the customized magic item that I presented to Daves character Uthen-Gar in my Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition game.

Customized magic items in 5th edition

Magic items are a large part of Dungeons and Dragons and it is important to have items that not only add a benefit to characters but have ones in your game that enrich the players, but your world as well.

When I created ‘Rune,’ a tiny elemental it was to have a role playing tool in the party that I controlled but to give Dave’s character a mechanical benefit.  He is playing a dwarven fighter wizard and thus will need coin for armor as well as magical research.  By giving him an item that reduces his cost I have lessened that burden of his character choice.

Forging Bastion — 5E D&D Magic Item

customized magic itemNerdarchist Ted here and I am hear to expand on our video series Mage Forge making customized magic items for 5th edition.  Today we delve more into the magic item we created for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition; Bastion the Pact of the Ogre Magi.

Alex Maxwell gave us the inspiration for reskinning a magic item and making it something unique and interesting.  I feel that making new customized magic items makes the party more excited because it is not something out of the book and it enriches the world because someone had to have made it.

Rise of the Mongrelfolk in Chimes of Discordia for 5E D&D

Dungeons and DragonsHello loyal Nerdarchist and readers.  Nerdarchist Ted here and today I want to do something a little bit different.  Last week I brought you an article talking about how to use the Mongrelfolk in Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition.  So today I want to talk about how they came to be in our home brew: Chimes of Discordia.

Far to the south of our lovely town of Griphongaff lies a swamp.  A place teeming with life of all sort.  Though everything living there needs to be hearty as it is a rough place to live.  Many dangerous creatures call this place home.

5E D&D Fighter Archetype — Weapon Master

Weapon Master

Nerdarchist Ted here and today I am breaking the mold. Normally I do a board game review on Mondays and instead today I am going to give you a Customized Archetype for your fighter for Dungeons and Dragons 5th ed.

New Archetype for fighter in Dungeons and Dragons

The fighter presented in thePlayers Handbook is an all around fighter, able to pick up any weapon and excel almost equally with it.   The Weapon Master is the opposite.  They have toiled long hours in hard disciplined practice to truly master a weapon of choice.

As this is an archetype the rest of the fighters skills apply to anything the fighter chooses to wield but the remainder of the benefits only work when they are wielding the weapon of choice.

Customized races

Mogrelfolk Playable Race for 5E D&D

Customized racesHey Nerdarchists out there, Nerdarchist Ted here and it is time for yet another installment of customized races for D&D 5th edition.   Today I wanted to bring you the Mongrelfolk.  Nerdarchy received a request for us to talk about this and I never would have guessed how pumped it would make me want to play one.

In D and D mongrelfolk are a race of creatures you would never take for a race.  Through generations of cross breeding you have outcasts that look nothing like anything else, even each other.  Potentially possessing horns, tails, talons or anything else from wild creatures, Mogrelfolk are asymmetrical.  They are hardy folk living in the wilds since most civilized people are unwilling to take in the freaks.

Customized Races – The Saurials| Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition

Dungeons and dragonsHey Nerdarchists out there, Nerdarchist Ted here and it is time for yet another installment of customized races for D&D 5th edition. Saurials, humanoid Dinosaurs brought to you by the Finders stone trilogy.  It was an amazing read all those years ago.  But after reading it plagued the question, well how do I play a humanoid dinosaur in my game.

Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition

I will level with you.  I love playing unique races in Dungeons and Dragons and I have loved dinosaurs since I was a kid.  When I was in fourth grade I got the illustrated dinosaur dictionary and I have read through it many times.  Now as scientists uncover more facts about dinosaurs and change in some or many ways the way they are viewed the coolness factor of them have not changed.

Grimlock as a Playable Race for 5E D&D

GrimlockHey Nerdarchists out there, Nerdarchist Ted here and it is time for yet another installment of customized races for D&D 5th edition.  Inspired by the name alone can make one remember the quote, “Grimlock strongest of the  . . .”  If you remember that, I hope I made you chuckle.

Grimlocks are descended from humans but being worshipers of evil for so long and living underground has caused them to change.  They no longer posses the ability to see adapting their senses to just know what is around them instead of actually trying to see it.
