Mutating Into Mythic Ranks of MTG Arena

I’ve stated unequivocally many times how Magic: The Gathering is hands down the best game ever created. I love me some tabletop roleplaying games including a lifelong affection for Dungeons & Dragons but at the end of the day it’s all about that cardboard crack, or digital crack thanks to MTG Arena — the free-to-play digital version of the OG collectible card game. Every so often when I get into a groove (and winning streak) I’ll share the decklist and thoughts here. Rather than updating the first of these posts as I sometimes do when I tweak a deck instead I’m starting from scratch here because this one is significantly different than its original version. Let’s get into it.

RPG Ideas — Fame

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is fame, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of fame fantasy adventurers who take to the streets (or apocalyptic wastelands YMMV) can win fame and fortune in the magical motorcycle racing circuit! You can get Nerdarchy the Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Lizard Wizard

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel when Nerdarchists Dave and Ted started with the environment of a swamp to create a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character who combines harnessing the darker elements and power of the swamp with a lizard wizard. Next step was to decide who would be in this swamp. This Lizard Wizard 5E D&D Character Build Guide leans into the idea of decay and the fetid nature of the swamp a bit more than our original lizard wizard concept. Let’s get into it.

Activate Beast Mode for Your 5E D&D Games

Penny Dragon Games invites fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons players to live on the wild side with Bergin’s Book of Beasts, a 5E D&D supplement featuring over 200 new beasts plus beast themed subclasses for all your adventurers. This fully funded project already unlocked a bunch of beastly stretch goals and shows no signs of slowing down. An awesome resource for players and Dungeon Masters alike Bergin’s Book of Beasts is packed with tons of great material to unleash your inner beast. Let’s get into it.

Wizards of the Coast’s Reveals Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel Details

The fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons team graciously invited me to participate in a press briefing recently all about the announcement of the next book release in 2022. Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel is an anthology of adventures in the style of Candlekeep Mysteries and Tales from the Yawning Portal centered around a fantastic location within the Ethereal Plane. Like its forebears the 14 adventures contained in this book can be used as standalone quests, strung together to form a campaign with the mysterious titular city at its heart or used whatever way works best for a 5E D&D Dungeon Master and the other players in their group. Let’s get into it.

Journey Over the Troll Bridge and Keep Magick City from Falling into the Lava Below

Hot on the heels of an amazing new tabletop roleplaying game one of the most creative people we know came up with another super fun RPG and it’s available right now. Creature Curation’s Brian Colin put together a brand new game called Over the Troll Bridge, a minimalist OSR (Old School Renaissance) inspired RPG for 1-7 players. Brian developed the game with his kids Wyatt and Ruby, with art by Carey Drake.

RPG Ideas — Origins

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is origins, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of origins the very first module we put together through collaboration with another creator is Lord of Dead Dreams. When we asked our Patreon supporters what module they’d most like us to revisit and expand on this one came about in first place by a wide margin. We’re dreaming up a new nightmare for the near future so keep an eye out and don’t sleep on this one!  You can get Nerdarchy the Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

Scaling Up Your D&D Game to Giant Proportions

Giants have been a part of Dungeons & Dragons since the beginning of the game. I have always struggled with giants. They did not come up a lot early in my game play and when I watched the old ’80s D&D cartoon giants were much more massive than they are listed as now. But whether giants are just over 10 feet tall or over 100 feet tall they are still ginormous and difficult to interact with in D&D.
