Dissecting the 5E D&D Giant Creature Type

Salutations, nerds! The fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons creature type I’m covering today is a pretty big deal if I do say so myself. No? Well, I can’t see myself out so I’ll just have to write this one while I’m sitting in pun jail. Grab your magic beans and say Fee Fi Fo Fum with me because I smell something and I don’t think it’s the blood of an Englishman. That’s right, I’m looking at 5E D&D giants! From the big stompy boys who appear in your standard fairy tale fair to the jotun from Norse mythology, giants figure in a lot of fantasy’s source material so it’s no small wonder they also figure prominently in D&D.

Flames of Enchantment Erupt from the Mage Forge!

So many memorable moments from our fantasy roleplaying game experiences originate through the amazing magical items our characters possess. Drawing your sword accompanied by the roar of a dragon to signify the blade as a relic of an ancient order and your wielding it proving your right to carry on the legacy. Plumbing the depths of eldritch knowledge through your ring’s cursed connection to an unfathomable entity plumbing the depths of your soul in trade. Capturing the souls of dying creatures in your lantern to draw on their essence for aid in your darkest moments. These are the kinds of moments we adventure for as fantasy RPG players. And as creators we’re throwing open the doors to our magic item vault in Mage Forge — Magic Items for 5th Edition!

Tabletop Roleplaying Game Expectations in 2022

It’s the first day of a new year and reflection on the previous year naturally comes to mind. Recently we shared a collection of Nerdarchy’s Top 10 of 2021 and for a companion piece I’m looking forward to 2022 like I did 12 months ago for the year that’s just ended. I’m a lifelong nerd and now partner in our company so I spend considerable time thinking about the hobby personally and professionally. From this perspective here’s my thoughts about the future of the tabletop RPG industry including what I hope emerges. Let’s get into it.

Top 10 5E D&D Homebrew Magic Items by a Factor of Three — Weapons

There’s a lot of homebrew content for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons found at D&D Beyond. Despite the hundreds of thousands of spells, races, subclasses, monsters, magic items and more I’m frankly shocked how many magic weapons exist in the database. I’ve looked at all the schools of magic, subclasses for each class individually, feats, monsters, races and a variety of other categorizations of 5E D&D content. Most recently I’ve been going through magic items one category at a time, which now includes homebrew armorpotionsringsrodsscrolls, staffs and wands. Time to check out the over 102,531 homebrew magic weapons at DDB. Let’s get into it.

Nerdarchy’s Top 10 of 2021

Another year comes to a close and we start a year Harvey Dent would be beside himself about with 2022. In a few days we’re putting the Nerdarchymobile in high gear with the launch of our second Kickstarter for Mage Forge — Magic Items for 5th Edition but right now we’re looking back at the year that was through the Top Ten most engaging content across the various platforms.

Embracing a 5E D&D Sorcerer’s Epic Destiny through The Witcher

Season 2 of The Witcher is officially out on Netflix and it’s no surprise how great it’s been. Based on the acclaimed novels that inspired the famous video game franchise The Witcher series is a treat for those fantasy fans who enjoy a thrill with a pinch of horror monsters. While watching I recognized a new use for one of our previously published subclasses.

Top 10 5E D&D Homebrew Magic Items by a Factor of Three — Wands

There’s so much homebrew content for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons found at D&D Beyond! Tens of thousands of entries include spells, races, subclasses, monsters, magic items and pretty much everything you’d expect. We’ve even got a presence over there in what I believe is the only third party creator to achieve. (I do totally mean to toot our own horn 100%) In videos and posts we’ve looked at all the schools of magic, subclasses for each class individually, feats, monsters, races and a variety of other categorizations of 5E D&D content. Now I’m onto magic items and already explored the homebrew armorpotionsringsrodsscrolls and staffs so now it’s time to take up a trusty staff. There’s enough of the over 3,649 homebrew magic wands at DDB to include something for any character so let’s get into it.

Top 9 Most Wearable Dragons

We recently made a big change! We packed up our merch and migrated to a new platform. Teepublic offers a way better user experience for all of you and for creators too! On top of the improved user experience from either side of the equation the items available there are much higher quality while at the same time more accessible through much lower prices — plus huge sales basically all of the time. We’ve still got a ways to go before all our Nerdarchy branded merch shows up there and in the meantime we’ve been stocking the store with the Zoo Mafia. We’re also huge nerds ourselves and love us some novelty nerdy stuff.

D&D Ideas — Tournaments

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is the tournaments, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of tournaments we’ve got a contest of the ages to watch for: in one corner it’s your desire for unique, evocative magic items you’ll be as thrilled to present to characters as they’ll be to discover. In the other corner Nerdarchy’s Deluxe Box Set of 250 Tarot Sized Magic Item Cards for the world’s greatest roleplaying game!
