Wild Beyond the Witchlight Adds Delightful 5E D&D Race Options

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted cross over into the Feywild for a look at two new fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons races. The Fairy and Harengon both can be found within Wild Beyond the Witchlight, the latest 5E D&D campaign adventure. New character options always get players excited and in particular I appreciate linking new player content to broader material like a setting or adventure. Let’s hop into it.

Study Up on 5E D&D Magic — Illusion Spells

Salutations, nerds! Next up on the docket is illusion magic for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. Illusion is the school of magic spun to ensnare the senses of others, to hide things or plant ideas. I’m going to be honest that I don’t really understand why illusion and enchantment are different schools of magic in 5E D&D except illusion creates sensation and enchantment can take full control of a creature. Illusion sits in a weird place because if you’re really good at illusion magic then they kind of become conjurations. Maybe this is part of my bias against enchantment magic because I feel like if you’re good enough at picking your illusions you can get the same effect without hitting an automatic “you believe me” button. Illusions in 5E D&D can be really fun. Just be careful not to be too heavy handed about it or you could leave your enemies asking what you’re hiding.

Wild Beyond the Witchlight Brings D&D Backgrounds to Vibrant Life

Despite a lack of snazzy features and potent powers a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character’s background represents perhaps the most impactful part of their creation. Whenever I create a character their background is something I put a lot of thought into because it’s such an important part of their identity. Background illustrates who the character was prior to taking steps on the road to adventure. Wild Beyond the Witchlight introduces two new backgrounds for 5E D&D characters perfect for the newest campaign adventure. Let’s get into it.

D&D Ideas — Vision & Light

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is vision and light, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of visions when a ghostly isle draws adventurers into Eternal Night they may persuade the spirits to let them leave but a haunting tale leaves them with visions of a parent in despair. See how flexible these topical terms can be? You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as The Wolverine

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted pop their claws to carve out a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character who’s the best there is at what they do — and what they do ain’t pretty! The Wolverine gets their berserker rage on courtesy of a Primal Path from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. We’ve D&D-ized quite a lot of fictional characters and items including a certain beloved mutant. Newer character options since then created an opportunity to revisit this concept. Let’s get into it.

Study Up on 5E D&D Magic — Evocation Spells

Salutations, nerds! Let’s explore evocation magic for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. These spellcasters represent elementalists and those who make things go boom! Evocation magic is arguably the most useful 5E D&D school of magic in combat and most healing spells are also classified as evocation too. Evocation is also the school I don’t feel as inclined to glorify for you because so many 5E D&D players already at least strongly consider playing an evoker or at least rely heavily on spells from this school of magic. Let’s blast off!

This Manual of Monsters Might Save Your D&D Adventurer’s Life

Ever faced a Dungeons & Dragons tarrasque and lived? Do you even know what a tarrasque is in the D&D multiverse? I can assure you for any character regardless of level a tarrasque is quite terrifying, as not many adventures live to tell the tale of this mighty beast. Not to mention many D&D adventurers consider a tarrasque the most deadly creature within D&D. Intense, right? The best I can describe this behemoth is Godzilla mixed with a spot of an armadillo and a dragon. There are high level adventuring groups whose end goal involves facing and defeating the creature. I can only imagine a treasure hoard of this monstrosity the size of a five story building!

D&D Ideas — Clockwork

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is clockwork, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of clockwork in Pay to Play adventures discover an unusual clockwork device and must decide if activating the device is worth the risk! Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as an Extreme Adventurer

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted get totally stoked about a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character all about exploring bigger and better dungeons that others haven’t conquered yet. The Extreme Adventurer might be one of our more tongue-in-cheek 5E D&D character builds. Think Indiana Jones meets American Ninja Warrior contestant. Let’s get into it.

Pocket Full of NPCs for 5E D&D — The Identify Intern

Salutations, nerds! I’ve got another fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons NPC for your pocket today. Last time we went with a fence for shady types to give their ill begotten gains to for payment and now we’re going to be talking about the Identify Intern. This is the 5E D&D wizard the party can bring their magic items to if none of them knows how to cast identify themselves. Pocket Full of NPCs gives 5E D&D Dungeon Masters a variety of characters you can pull off the shelf whenever you happen to need them.

Study Up on 5E D&D Magic — Transmutation Spells

Salutations, nerds! In this post I’m exploring ideas about my personal favorite school of magic for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons — transmutation! Polymorphs, classic transmutations and enhancements all fall under this 5E D&D school of magic. Fun fact — transmutation is also where you will find time related spells (not that 5E D&D has any explicit time manipulation magic but more on this later). I see School of Transmutation spellcasters so rarely and I think it’s a shame because there’s not a whole lot more thematic than a transmuter. Turning lead into gold or your apprentice into a whole bunch of different kinds of animals…mmm. It’s just good. So let’s crack into this.

Slake Your Dark Fantasy Magic Hunger with the 5E D&D Path of the Spelleater Barbarian

If you’re not watching Nerdarchy’s new fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons live play on Nerdarchy Live, now’s the perfect time to catch up! In this dark fantasy 5E D&D campaign I take the reins in my homebrew setting of Aulmn, the same setting for Quill & Sword. The rest of Team Nerdarchy are playing Nerdarchy original subclasses.

Pocket Full of NPCs for 5E D&D — The Fence

Salutations, nerds! I’m back with another fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons NPC for you, something to keep in your back pocket for when your 5E D&D players need them. Last time we spent some time with a lycanthropic barbarian and this time we’re looking at something a little bit more utilitarian and subtle. I’m sure you’ve been in a situation where your rogue characters stole something and needed to get rid of it, right? Well, you’re in luck. That is the very situation this NPC was geared toward.

D&D Ideas — Oozes, Slimes and Jellies

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is oozes, slimes and jellies, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of oozes, slimes and jellies what if a normally nonspellcasting creature had access to a spell or spell like effect and creates a mystical shell game with one ooze and one item? You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

Top 5 Official Campaign Settings for 5E D&D

Here at Nerdarchy we love our fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. The system is fluid and elegant, allowing for play in a variety of different settings. But maybe you’re new to the RPG hobby and you’re just not sure where to start when it comes to a campaign setting. While we tend to like our own homebrew settings, building an entire world can be a daunting task — especially for someone who’s just picked up a book and a set of dice for the first time. But don’t let your knickers get in knots; we’re here to help.
