Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Justicar

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted explore an idea for a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character who draws power from their cultural history. This dwarven Justicar Character Build Guide combines the Path of the Ancestral Guardian barbarian primal path with the 5E D&D paladin class to protect allies and hinder foes alongside the spirits of their forebears. Let’s get into it.

Dissecting the 5E D&D Elemental Creature Type

Salutations, nerds, I’ve got some hot stuff for you today. The focus of this post about a specific creature type in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons is all about elementals. These primal creatures are basically made of earth, air, fire or water. It’s a little bit more complex than this and since this is one of my very favorite 5E D&D creature types I’m pretty excited to tuck into this one.

D&D Ideas — Scales

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is the scales, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of scales in Deep Breaths a procession of scaly lizardfolk considers the wisdom of their Voices of the Depths on whether an intruding party of adventurers present a worthy offering for the Drowned One or if they’ll be the offering themselves! You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

‘Tis the Season for 5E D&D Holiday Adventures

Thanksgiving has come and gone again, Charlie Brown, and this means the holidays are officially upon us. With the season comes an urge to run holiday themed adventures and one shots. Whether you want to do a one night session with all new characters or you want to incorporate a holiday session or two into your holiday season I’ve got thoughts on how to run a great holiday adventure for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons this year!

Top 10 5E D&D Homebrew Magic Items by a Factor of Three — Rings

Browsing the homebrew content for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons found at D&D Beyond has become a regular habit for me by now. Since going over all the schools of magic, subclasses for each class individually, feats, monsters, races and a variety of other categorizations of 5E D&D content I’ve now moved onto magic items. Going in alphabetical order I’ve already explored the homebrew armor and potions for 5E D&D so now it’s time for rings. It may blow your mind to know there’s over 17,718 homebrew magic rings at DDB. Let’s get into it.

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Supernatural Soldier

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted ask can magic replicate science? Finding an answer means recreating the first Avenger and most well known super soldier of all time for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. Iconic comic book superheroes operate on a different scale than 5E D&D adventurers and D&D-izing our favorite fictional characters is a lot of fun. When our Supernatural Soldier Character Build Guide throws their mighty shield all those who chose to oppose this shield must yield. It’s science. (Or magic?). Let’s get into it.

14 Mighty Medium Monsters of 5E D&D

Not too long ago I followed up a beefy post about the chonkiest bois in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons with 7 Small Scaries of 5E D&D. Ever a sucker for a series since there’s more size categories in the game I’m compelled to cover them all. In fact the post where this all began isn’t technically limited to the most mammoth creatures in 5E D&D at least where physical size is concerned. Eventually this series will grow into the gargantuan creatures but for now we’re only at the midpoint with Medium creatures. Let’s get into it.

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game with the Break System from Octopath Traveler

Fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons has seen a boom in success like never before. So many people are playing and talking about 5E D&D and a robust community of homebrew and indie content has flooded the community with enough ways to tell and play so many types of stories with the system. Even when 5E D&D can’t accommodate a certain type of game or story there are a wealth of other systems to choose from. Much like the golden age of JRPGs this is the golden age of TTRPGs and as such I’ve had both on the brain lately.

Immerse Yourself in the Ashes or Ardor Campaign with New 5E D&D Subclasses

Over at Nerdarchy Live we’ve been playing various RPGs on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. eastern. The group of us rotate Game Master duties after each campaign ends, which typically run 12 sessions each. For our current campaign we’re playing Ashes of Ardor with fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons set in the amazing world of Aulmn, a homebrew creation of Steven Partridge. During our session zero we decided we’d all play 5E D&D subclasses of our own Nerdarchy creation. With this campaign winding down, while we prepare for our next one — a superhero campaign using Cypher System — we thought we’d share some insight from this experience. Let’s get into it.

Dissecting the 5E D&D Dragon Creature Type

Salutations, nerds! Today’s post focusing on a specific creature type in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons is interesting because with almost every other creature type there’s a little bit of fuzziness around the edges but pretty much everybody already shares some familiarity with a dragon. Take a second and picture a dragon. I know something came to mind whether it’s the long snakelike Eastern kind or the big ol’ firebreathing Western kind. Listen — dragons are cool in 5E D&D.
