Fancy Familiars for 5E D&D

Most of us know when it comes to fifth edition Dungeons & dragons usually you cannot directly pick your familiars. The familiars more or less choose you. This mystery and gamble so to say offers a lot of suspense and curiosity to the general game play. The great thing about any 5E D&D game is you can always expand and allow for more options of course within the agreed upon terms with your Dungeon Master and fellow adventurers.

D&D Ideas — Tragedy

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is tragedy, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Speaking of tragedy in Mirror, Mirror adventurers encounter a forlorn spirit with a tragic tale they can help resolve. A Hearth Hope reflects on their former life and seeks to carry out one last task along with 54 other dynamic scenarios in Out of the Box. Find out more about it here.  You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

Firearms Create Fantastic 5E D&D Storytelling Opportunities

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted get locked and loaded for a discussion of the place for firearms in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. They go over where and how firearms appear in 5E D&D and touch on perspectives related to included them in games. For me the question of whether firearms feel appropriate for D&D brings up a broader view of just what kind of fantasy D&D represents. So let’s get into it.

Big RPG Plans for WizKids Unpainted Miniatures Wave 13

WizKids has been putting out quality miniatures for quite some time. I can recall their releases during the third edition Dungeons & Dragons era and how they changed what we were doing at the gaming table. For many years I’ve purchased their prepainted miniatures line and loved them. They are great for any who have no desire or inclination to paint miniatures for their tabletop roleplaying game experiences.

Improve Your RPG Experiences with Random Generators

The other day I was playing Dungeons & Dragons and the Dungeon Master started describing an NPC casting a spell. Rather than say the NPC begins an incantation he instead began performing an evocative chant that really brought me into the scene and the game. Needless to say I was very impressed. Not only had I thought this DM had seriously prepped the encounter but I thought we had overstepped what we should have been doing at the time.

Top 5 D&D Beyond Homebrew Illusion Spells for 5E D&D

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted explore the art of misdirection in the context of combat in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. Specifically they discuss useful spells from the illusion school of magic to deploy in 5E D&D battles. They identify three terrific illusion spells useful in combat out of 33 total in official 5E D&D sources. Whenever these sorts of videos come up I like to take a look at what the D&D Beyond community offers. There’s over 2,760 homebrew illusion spells in the DDB database so let’s get into it.

Diving into the Evolution of Tabletop RPGs

I couldn’t be more excited going into our new Dungeons & Delving campaign at Nerdarchy Live. The premise is a dungeon delving reality game show where our characters are treasure hunters. This fascinating premise comes from the mind of our own Nerdarchist Ted. The hype is real and it’s gotten me thinking about the premise itself and why we’re seeing an influx of nontraditional content in the streamed gaming community for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons.

3 Ways to Handle NPC Conversation Without Breaking the Flow of Your RPG

Salutations, nerds! Every once in a while the NPCs in a tabletop roleplaying game talk to each other and this has a tendency to become super awkward for a Game Master. Few GMs enjoy the feeling of narrating back and forth with themselves while a group of players wait on hold. Today I’m going to be sharing three ways to handle this circumstance during an RPG session.

5E D&D Candlekeep Mysteries

Discover Candlekeep Mysteries for Your 5E D&D Game

Speculation laid to rest today as Wizards of the Coast announces the next official release — Candlekeep Mysteries for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons — on March 16, 2021. The upcoming book comprises an anthology of short adventures from a variety of writers. Much like our own credo of creating and presenting 5E D&D content in an easy to use format ready to drop right into your games the adventures in Candlekeep Mysteries are touted to be shorter and more versatile to use for things like one shots.
