D&D Ideas — Rings

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is rings, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. A Ring of Stoneshielding protects adventurers from the dangerous effect of creatures like basilisks and keeps a hero’s body flexible and limber whenever effects seek to restrain them in place. Originally created for our Garden of Statuary book this ring more recently became one of our monthly Magic Item Cards. Find out more about it here. You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

dwynen gilf leaf daen mtg 5E D&D zen archer

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Zen Archer

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted calmly take aim at a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. On a whim the Nerdarchy crew wanted to create a wood elf archer build. It appeared to be something players were searching for online. Instead of going with some of the obvious choices we decided to come up with something a bit more unique for the Zen Archer character build for 5E D&D. Let’s get into it.

Gerald Brom elric soul stealer

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Stealer of Souls

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted offer up blood and souls for a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. This Stealer of Souls character build for 5E D&D came about because frankly we just wanted to make a paladin/Hexblade warlock character. While discussing it, a certain albino anti-hero from literature came up, so we leaned into the connection. Let’s get into it.

D&D Ideas — Rods, Staves and Wands

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is rods, staves and wands, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Rods, staves and wands are all powerful arcane implements but there’s plenty of variety and opportunities for those who don’t use magic to make use of them too. You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

mtg battle brawler 5E D&D half-orc brawler

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as an Extreme Brawler

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted knuckle down to punch up a fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. One of the Fighting Styles in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything creates an opportunity to explore a popular concept and one we think is really fun and cool and now it’s got mechanical support — no reflavoring necessary! Woe be to the unfortunate enemy squaring off
against the Extreme Brawler character whose fists become deadly weapons. These 5E D&D brawlers are tough enough to stay in the fight no matter the odds. Let’s get into it.

mtg beast whisperer 5E D&D beast binder

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Beast Binder

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted attract a menagerie of pets for another fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. Lots of 5E D&D players love befriending and collecting critters throughout their adventures. We thought it would be fun to create a Beast Binder character whose career is focused on discovering new creatures, researching them and gathering pets, allies and friends along the way. Let’s get into it.

D&D Ideas — Potions

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is potions, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Potions offer a potentially unlimited variety effects and creative Game Masters can get a lot of adventuresome mileage from these consumable magic items. Tonic of Hair Growth is a potion that puts a bit of beardomantic power in anyone’s hands. Bad haircuts are a thing of the past with a bit of this arcane tonic and practitioners of the beardomantic arts can find the added length and volume useful foci for weaving their magic. Originally created for our Beardomancy book this potion more recently became one of our monthly Magic Item Cards. Find out more about it here. You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Champion of the Wild

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted get wild with another fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. When we were working on a video about what classes are best for an aasimar character we noticed their traits like Healing Hands and Radiant Soul would work while Wild Shaped. So we got the idea for this Champion of the Wild 5E D&D character as a divine guardian of nature ready to lay down the hurt on those that would despoil the land. Let’s get into it.

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Drunken Tactician

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted take a shot for a very fluid fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. Sometimes these character builds start with a narrative and sometimes they mash different classes together out of mechanical curiosity. In the case of the Drunken Tactician it’s the latter. This 5E D&D character started with mechanics and built a narrative around them. Let’s get into it.

D&D Ideas — Weapons

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is weapons, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Magical weapons can be transformative treasures for any character and become a core part of their adventuring identity. Glaive of Wizardry is a magic weapon designed for squishy spellcasters to give them a cool melee option. Nerdarchist Ted created our very first Monthly Magic Item Card as the signature weapon of a powerful hobgoblin antagonist in a monthly game he ran on Nerdarchy Live and decided to share it with the D&D community. Beware the wizard wielding this legendary weapon! Find out more about it here. You can get the Nerdarchy Newsletter delivered to your inbox each week, along with updates and info on how to game with Nerdarchy plus snag a FREE GIFT by signing up here.

mtg wanderer's strike 5E D&D blind master

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Blind Master

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted set out to build a fun and functional fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons character. Forums and social media posts ad nauseum discuss a particular character concept all the time. Many times over the years folks ask for our take too. Among the new character options in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything a new 5E D&D Fighting Style makes the Blind Master puzzle complete. The Blind Master character incorporates both magical and mundane methods as well as some pretty esoteric martial techniques and truly earns the title of master. Let’s get into it.

Top 10 5E D&D Homebrew Arcane Traditions by a Factor of Three

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted explore homebrew feats for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons from D&D Beyond. We have a lot of fun checking out the 5E D&D content folks come up with and sharing their homebrew creations. (There’s lots of these posts whether for homebrew subclasses, magic items, spells, feats and more floating around for the curious.) This time around I’m peering into the subtle weave of magic that permeates the cosmos to check out the most scholarly class in 5E D&D — the wizard — and checking out the Top 10 homebrew Arcane Traditions. There’s currently over 1,500 homebrew of them so let’s get into it.

MTG twinblade paladin 5E D&D holy paragon character

Play Your Next 5E D&D Game as a Holy Paragon

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel the community never lets Nerdarchists Dave and Ted down, sharing suggestions and requests for all sorts of fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons characters and for this one a player digs the idea of the holiest character around. Divine power permeates 5E D&D so the options are many but our prayers are answered. The Holy Paragon character combines divine lineage and personal conviction, eager to learn more about divinity and strengthen their faith through study and devoted practice. Let’s get into it.

Mandalorian armorer 5E D&D bounty hunter campaign

D&D Ideas — Armor

Welcome once again to the weekly newsletter. This week’s topic is armor, which we discussed in our weekly live chat. We hangout every Monday evening at 8 p.m. EST on Nerdarchy Live to talk about D&D, RPGs, gaming, life and whatever nerdy stuff comes up. Magical armor is one of the best treasures an adventurer can discover during their perilous quests. Armor equals protection at the very least and mythical abilities at the pinnacle of armor power. Armor of Fallen Leaves harkens back to earlier days of D&D and turned a shade of Nerdarchy in more recent times from one of our earliest modules. Now it’s the May Magic Item Card. While wearing this mystical armor you can transform into a swirling cloud of leaves! Find out more about it here.

D&D sorcerer

Top 10 5E D&D Homebrew Sorcerous Origins by a Factor of Three

Over at Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted take a look at the top rated fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons homebrew Bard Colleges from D&D Beyond. We have a lot of fun checking out the 5E D&D content folks come up with and sharing their homebrew creations. (There’s lots of these posts whether for homebrew subclasses, magic items, spells, feats and more floating around for the curious.) I’m not choosing sorcery for a closer look this week — the power chose me to check out the most magical class in 5E D&D — the sorcerer — and checking out the Top 10 homebrew Sorcerous Origins. There’s currently over 1,720 homebrew of them so let’s get into it.
