Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep Revealed for 5E D&D

That mystery book for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons showing up on Amazon recently now has a name — Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep. According to the official D&D website this epic Critical Role campaign asks adventurers — can you change fate?

5E D&D Critical Role adventure

“The greed of mortals has awakened a powerful entity long thought destroyed. For eons, this mighty champion of the gods has been imprisoned in the darkest depths of Exandria. His name has been forgotten, as have his heroic deeds. Languishing in despair, he calls out for new heroes to save him.”

The Wastes of Xhorhas set the stage for 5E D&D adventurers to begin an epic quest inspired by the campaigns of Critical Role. I’m going to speculate this shares a close connection with the upcoming Critical Role campaign three since Call of the Netherdeep leads adventurers from their starting point to the continent of Marquet and the new campaign is set there too. The city of Ank’Harel features in the campaign book perhaps as a hub for parties who’ll venture “into a sunken realm of gloom, corruption, and sorrow known as the Netherdeep.”

The details from the D&D site mention Exandria’s red moon of Ruidus as well, which watches and twists the fates of influential and powerful individuals whose actions affect history. The Netherdeep (a megadungeon?) is described as “a terrifying cross between the Far Realm and the deep ocean.”

Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep is set for release on March 15, 2022. You can preorder the book through Amazon here.
