Nerdarchy on D&D Warlock: 5 Best Invocations for Exploration

In this 12-minute video on Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted explore the exploration pillar for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons through warlocks’ Eldritch Invocations. This video topic emerged directly through comments on an earlier video about these warlock options for combat purposes. Lots of people asked for the same approach for the other two pillars of the game and most often for exploration.

The conversation begins with Dave and Ted laying the groundwork. When the video was filmed there were 54 Eldritch Invocations from official 5E D&D sources. Of those they identify 12 related to exploration. Oddly enough research for this video led directly to yet another video! Characters in 5E D&D can choose quite a few features along the way giving them extraordinary powers of sight, which they delved into in this later video.

Ted explains what inspired this video discussion, giving a nod to Mini Terrain Domain’s Scribes and Scrolls campaign wherein the adventuring party faced their own lycanthropic scenario. Dave and Ted also point towards a post here on the website with tips, ideas and suggestions for playing werewolves, vampires and other monstrous creatures as player characters. You can find the post here.

As an aside in the video Dave and Ted point out how Eldritch Invocations are a terrific way to customize the warlock class with new options. This concept is explored further in our series on Excavating Unearthed Arcana that Didn’t Make the Cut. For an example of how Eldritch Invocation options for specific Otherworldly Patrons really punch up a warlock’s repertoire you can take a look at post here on the website with our own New Eldritch Invocations for the Norn Warlock.

The remainder of the video dovetails from the look at Eldritch Invocations for exploration and highlights some more suited to the social pillar. They also share the list of options from which they pared down to arrive at the five best ones discussed in the video.

What are your top picks for Eldritch Invocations for 5E D&D’s warlock class to make the most of exploration? Do you know any cool interactions you’ve discovered? Got any interesting experiences to share from times your Eldritch Invocation choices made a big impact in your games? Let us know in the comments and as always, stay nerdy!

And be honest — did you think the thumbnail said “Wario Invocations”? Don’t worry, we’re working on the follow up Waluigi Invocations too.
