Kickstarter Korner for September 2018, Week 1

Character Creation in Pathfinder Playtest
Creating a D&D Menu Generator with New Chartopia Editor

Each week during the Quests & Adventures live chat, Saturday at 2 p.m. eastern, Nerdarchists Dave and Ted and Nate the Nerdarch hang out live with fans from the Nerdarchy YouTube channel. It’s a chance to share announcements and news, answer questions from the live chat and generally just hang out and talk nerdy with the Nerdarchy community.

In the description of each weekly video, Nerdarchist Ted compiles a list and links to all the videos and website content from the week. But he also shares a selection of cool Kickstarter campaigns. As an avid Kickstarter supporter, he’s happy to share his favorite RPG and gaming-related Kickstarters with you, the Nerdarchy community. Enjoy!

One of the best pieces of advice he repeats often — and this is nothing groundbreaking here — is don’t compare yourself to others. Just keep doing the best you can do at whatever you do and striving to improve. If you’re an adventurer, don’t worry about what the adventuring company in the next town is doing. If you’re a video creator, writer, designer, streamer, or whatever creative avenue you enjoy, focus on your own work. Even top professionals in the gaming field like Chris Perkins say all the time that everyone finds their own path forward. You could take the same steps as he did and things will pan out completely different for you.

And you don’t have to be a fantasy hero or side-hustling content creator to put this advice to use either. At my muggle job, I learned long ago not to compare my work with my colleagues’. Sure, I assess the environment here and there to check if I’m still exceeding expectations as an editor and designer. I’m only human after all, and I’ve got an ego. But for the most part I start each day with the same goal: doing the best I can for clients and audiences around the country.

It’s the same approach I take with my gaming endeavors, as a player, a Game Master, and a content creator for this stuff. When I’m a player, I try my best to contribute to a fun experience for my fellows and the GM. When I run a game, I focus on guiding players to telling the best story they can of their characters. And when I’m hunkered down working on stuff for Nerdarchy or another client, I put my effort and energy into creating to the best of my ability for y’all. I know there’s people out there who are better writers, designers, editors, GMs, players and whatnot, but they didn’t get there by worrying about what everyone else is doing and how they measured up. They just kept working. No one ever gets worse at something by practicing.

So that’s the tip for you today, no matter what you do, create something awesome. That’s what I’m about to go and do. Stay nerdy!
