Giants and Dinosaurs: A Savage Settlement for Your RPG Worlds

Create a Random Holiday NPC: Hollyclaw, the Festive Chimera
Speak With Dead #34: Meat Drive

Deep within the untamed wilds, where volcanic peaks belch smoke and ancient jungles stretch for miles, there exists a mythic settlement of giants who have forged an unbreakable bond with dinosaurs. Known as Titanclaw, this savage domain is a place of primordial power, where colossal beings live alongside prehistoric beasts, taming their ferocity into a symbiotic partnership.

Titanclaw offers a treasure trove of opportunities for RPG storytelling. Whether your players encounter this settlement as peaceful allies or fearsome adversaries, it promises a memorable experience.

Titanclaw: A Settlement of Giants and Beasts

Titanclaw sits on a fertile plateau, encircled by cliffs and craggy mountains. Vast herds of dinosaurs roam freely, overseen by stone giants with a naturalistic reverence for the creatures they raise and tame. The giants’ society is a harmonious blend of primal strength and ancient wisdom, with dinosaurs integrated into every aspect of life:

  • Dinosaurs as Companions: Brontosaurs carry enormous tents for nomadic migration, while raptors serve as swift scouts.
  • Battle Partners: Giants ride into battle atop armored stegosaurs or use ankylosaurs as living battering rams.
  • Livelihood: Pteranodons ferry supplies, and triceratops pull massive plows across fertile fields.

Using Titanclaw as Peaceful Allies

Titanclaw can be a sanctuary for players, a rare bastion of balance between nature and civilization. These giants revere the natural order, and their kinship with dinosaurs could offer invaluable aid to the party.

Adventure Hooks for Allies

  1. The Broken Pact: Titanclaw’s peace with a neighboring humanoid settlement has been shattered after a valuable dinosaur egg was stolen. The giants seek aid in tracking down the thief and restoring peace.
  2. The Beast Whisperers: A disease is spreading among the dinosaurs, and the giants beseech the party to find a cure. Perhaps it’s a magical curse tied to an ancient artifact hidden in the jungle.
  3. The Last Titan Claw: The giant chieftain wields an ancient weapon, the Titan Claw—a massive claw imbued with primal magic. The chieftain is dying, and they entrust the party to deliver the

artifact to a worthy successor before it falls into the wrong hands.

What Makes Them Unique Allies?

  • Dinosaur Companions: The giants may grant the party temporary dinosaur allies for specific tasks, such as riding a pteranodon to scout or charging into battle on a ceratosaurus.
  • Primordial Knowledge: The giants can offer lore about ancient beasts, lost ruins, or even the origins of dinosaurs in your world.
  • Nature’s Power: With their symbiotic relationship with dinosaurs, the giants may teach players unique spells, like Stampede, or crafting techniques to forge weapons from dinosaur bones.

Using Titanclaw as Adversaries

Not every encounter with Titanclaw needs to be peaceful. When angered or threatened, the giants unleash the full might of their dinosaur allies, becoming a terrifying force of nature.

Adventure Hooks for Adversaries

  1. The Hungry Herd: Titanclaw’s herds are growing uncontrollable, and their dinosaurs have begun invading nearby lands. The giants refuse to take responsibility, insisting that smaller folk should flee instead.
  2. The Tyrant King: A new leader of Titanclaw sees outsiders as a threat to their domain. The party must either negotiate peace or prepare for an all-out war involving a rampaging T. rex.
  3. Raid of the Colossus: The giants, in need of resources for their growing population, have begun raiding settlements, stealing supplies, and capturing humanoids as workers. The party must infiltrate Titanclaw and free the captives.

What Makes Them Formidable Enemies?

  • Unstoppable Strength: Giants armed with dinosaur cavalry can crush an unprepared party. Imagine a hill giant charging into battle atop a ceratosaurus, or a storm giant commanding a lightning-breathing carnotaurus.
  • Natural Hazards: Titanclaw’s jungle home is filled with dangers, from quicksand to roaming packs of velociraptors. Even reaching the settlement can be a deadly endeavor.
  • Dinosaur Swarms: In a battle, the giants’ herds could flood the battlefield, with smaller dinosaurs swarming alongside their massive companions.

Expanding Titanclaw for Campaigns

Whether Titanclaw becomes a major ally, enemy, or something in between, their society can expand into a larger campaign arc.

A Peaceful Arc

  • Titanclaw as an Ally: The giants and their dinosaurs form a key ally against a greater evil. Imagine dragons invading the jungle or a necromancer raising undead dinosaurs. The giants join the players in epic battles, bringing their own natural power to the fight.
  • Worldbuilding Opportunities: Titanclaw can serve as a hub for learning about ancient creatures or gaining powerful boons, such as enchanted dinosaur-hide armor or a dinosaur companion for a ranger.

An Adversarial Arc

  • Rising Threat: Titanclaw’s territorial expansion grows increasingly aggressive. The party must navigate a series of escalating confrontations, culminating in a climactic showdown with the chieftain riding a colossal, magically-enhanced T. rex.
  • The Party’s Role: The players may choose to unite neighboring factions against the giants, explore the jungle for a powerful weapon to turn the tide, or negotiate a fragile peace by uncovering the giants’ motivations.

A Land of Giants and Beasts Awaits

Titanclaw isn’t just a settlement—it’s a force of nature, a living testament to the savage beauty of a world untouched by civilization. Whether your players seek to befriend these mighty giants and their prehistoric allies or face them in a battle of epic proportions, the potential for storytelling is as vast as the dinosaurs themselves.

So, grab your dice, prepare your notes, and let Titanclaw stomp into your next RPG session. Whether it’s as protectors of the wild or as a terrifying adversary, one thing’s for sure: this is a setting your players will never forget.
