RPG Crate Unboxing — August 2018 This Begins Season 3
Hello fellow adventurer. It is time for another unboxing and we are diving into RPG Crate subscription box. August 2018 marks the third year of RPG Crate and all the exciting things that means. This is box No. 25 and I have most of them. My gaming shelf and T-shirt collection are all the more powerful for it.
August 2018 RPG Crate unboxing
From the RPG Crate August 2018 insert:
“Welcome to Season Three of RPG Crate where we embark on an exploration of ancient legends and tales worthy of the bards. Brave the arctic regions! Face creatures adapted to survival in the frigid wastes, and confront long forgotten mysteries buried beneath the ice. Do you have it within you to become a hero worthy of legend?”
T-shirt
The first item in this months RPG Crate is the exclusive T-shirt.
“If you hear the screech, It’s too late!”
An arctic owlbear T-shirt, nice. The owlbear is an iconic Dungeons & Dragons monster and to see it making its way to wearable products is just great. I always look forward to the awesome T-shirt that comes in my crate. It gives me the ability to show off the awesome RPG Crate and also supports the nerdy wear I so enjoy.
Effin Cool Miniatures
Next we have a premier metal miniature of — you guessed it — an Owlbear.
“You don’t have to run faster than the owlbear, just faster than the tank.”
Realistically you just have to outrun anyone in your party and you should be good. As readers here you should know my opinions on getting more minis, but in case you don’t, I feel I will never have enough. I am happy to add another owlbear to the collection, especially one as cool as this one is.
Atmar’s Cardography
Brought to you by Creature Curation and Norse Foundry you have an addition to your gaming collection that should be an asset to anyone. I adore the cards of Atmar’s Cardography. This is set No. 2 — The Icy Divide.
“Can you fight through the caverns to reap the rewards?”
This deck of cards has a full PDF adventure linked to it. You can use the PDF and layout the cards to build the dungeon as it was intended. You can use the cards to build a dungeon exactly as you see fit between sessions. Or can randomly draw cards and a build a dungeon on the fly as you are playing the game. I teased that you would get the second set last month and I am very happy to add this to my Dungeon Master tools. There are more decks on the horizon, currently on Kickstarter.
Recipe for Adventure
Taking all of this great stuff out of the box is making me hungry. Perhaps it is time for a Recipe for Adventure. These great little cards are a single encounter with a recipe on one side. The recipes are legit and one ingredient has been replaced with a fantasy ingredient though reading through it tells you what you can really use if you want to make the recipe in real life. Why not make it, run the adventure and then have the cook in-game make it and surprise your players with the real food that they too can eat. Sticking with the owlbear theme this card is for owlbear steaks — a rare delicacy on the tundra. [NERDITOR’S NOTE: I’ll take the bulette mignon, thank you.]
Legendary Adventures
Legendary Adventures are a great addition to the RPG Crate loot and I very much enjoy seeing these each month. Three full-page adventures linked together. Running them in full would probably take about 6-8 hours if you ran all the encounters and have a good amount of roleplaying as my players do. With season three starting, RPG Crate is taking an awesome turn with these. They are now going to be a month-to-month adventure with the plan to start at 1st level and continue with a level gained every month or so. These will be linked and continue the story and campaign arc to take characters all the way to 20th level. Nerdarchy, and yours truly, has been running these games on the channel for a while. Now it will be a continuous story so be on the look out last Friday of every month for this game.
Frog God Games
Last up is a 15-page adventure written by Frog God Games. The great people over at Frog God Games make awesome products and are good friends of ours over here at Nerdarchy. Because of RPG Crate I have a lot of their adventures and really enjoy what they put out.
“A cultist’s ring and demonic possession . . .what fun.”
The Riot Act, which is part of The Bard’s Gate setting, is the enclosed adventure. It is designed for 4-6 characters of 2nd level.
So there you have it. I hope that you will consider heading over to the RPG Crate website and check out their cool subscription boxes. You can pick out past crates or pick up pieces that have appeared in the crates past to start unboxing your own. If you want to subscribe to this one use the coupon code nerdarchyrpgcrate to get 10 percent off your first month’s subscription. This lets them know Nerdarchy sent you.
