Expand Your 5E D&D Carnival with Wild Beyond the Witchlight Minis

8 Large and in Charge Monsters of 5E D&D
Let Loose the Lamp Louse from Untraditionally Arcane in Your 5E D&D Game

The carnival is an amazing experience in the real world and should be even moreso when you are in the fantasy world. When you have access to magic then things should be bigger, better, brighter and even more tasty where the food is concerned.

Bring the Witchlight Carnival to life with WizKids

Wizkids created a whole series of miniatures designed to expand your fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons game of Wild Beyond the Witchlight into a three dimensional realm. The great thing about this series is beyond the typical blind purchase packs offering a great selection of fun and amazing minis there are three NPC packs available and you can see exactly what you are getting. These packs add characters like Warduke, Mr. Witch and Mr. Light to your table. Lastly the super cool Swamp Gas Balloon adds a new vehicle.

It’s also worth mentioning The Witchlight Carnival Dice & Miscellany because this accessory kit includes these really great cards that make it super easy to run carnival games. As your adventuring party explores the carnival on the edge of the Feywild why not add some new carnival games to play using the NPCs already included both as minis and as cards in the sets available above? Some of these characters might perform on stage or have other jobs but occasionally they enjoy talking with attendees and offer some new carnival games for the chance to win prizes just like the others.

Ellywick Tumblestrum and Groak

While Ellywick loves to perform she enjoys seeing others perform as well. If you can impress her she grants you a prize from the roll chart. Success on a DC 18 Performance check with any applicable ability score impresses Ellywick and she not only offers a prize but might very well write a song about you.

Northwind and Red

Northwind the treant sapling and his companion Red the squirrel are a lot of fun. What Northwind loves most is plants and plantlife. While it is not a typical carnival game his love of Nature is never at an end. He adores information about rare and unusual plants. If you can succeed on a DC 16 Nature check within three tries he offers a special seed that once planted grows into a beautiful flower in the color of your choosing.

Palasha

Rarely seen out of her tank because she’s a mermaid, Palasha enjoys talking and meeting all the wonderful creatures who come to the carnival. As a typical traveler she enjoys hearing tales about other cultures and stories of history worthy of song for her to perform. If you succeed on a DC 15 History check within three rolls she grants you a prize from the carnival prize table.

Kettlesteam the Kenku

Kettlesteam is a tricky one and while not officially part of the carnival games has absconded with a number of items she might offer up if you can impress her. If you succeed on a DC 17 Performance or Sleight of Hand check within three tries she grants you an item from the carnival prize table. If you do it on the first try you roll twice.

Burly the Bugbear

Usually busy or with his face buried in a book there are rare times Burly uses his might for entertainment. Burly offers a test of might and mind. You get to pick Arcana, History, Nature or Religion. While you discuss your topic at hand you compete in an arm wrestling contest. If you succeed on a DC 15 Strength check you win a prize. If you are not proficient in Intelligence (Arcana, History, Nature or Religion) you make your Strength check with disadvantage.

The minis are really gorgeous and I am looking forward to adding them into my regular rotation. I am particularly looking forward to using the Swamp Gas Balloon in a future game I am planning. The set is broken down into the core set of blind purchase boxes, which come with the usual four minis. My favorite from these are the very fey ones. The Campestri are a pair of mushrooms with faces. Usable as terrain or a fun social encounter with a talking mushroom is right up my ally as a Dungeon Master. There are plenty of other adorable minis to play with but my daughter wanted to steal Ellywick Tumblestrum and Groak as this little bard has a frog companion and she is obsessed with frogs. The star of the show is, well, Star the displacer beast kitten. This might have something to do with the fact I love displacer beasts.

The series has several sets that are not blind purchase. Witchlight Carnival Premium Set is not blind purchase and comes with the core set of 10 characters of the carnival. There are two additional sets that come with five unique minis, again not blind purchase — Valor’s Call Starter Set and League of Malevolence Starter Set. The last is the premium set of the Swamp Gas Balloon. With all the new things coming out with vehicles I love seeing all these additions make it into actual minis.

Thanks for reading. Until next time, stay nerdy!
