Wizards of the Coast Announces The Dungeon Masters Guild

Dungeon Crate brings RPG loot to your front door every month
Multiclass Character builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e (The Ranger)

Dungeon Masters GuildHello all and welcome back to Nerdarchy.  Today I want to talk about the Dungeon Masters Guild that Wizards recently announced.  You can view their announcement article here.  If you want to head strait to the guild and start adding to your Dungeons and Dragons 5E Library you can go here.

So if you have no idea what I am talking about let me explain.  By now you had to have heard the news about WoTC releasing the Open Gaming License for 5th edition.  The OGL for 3rd brought so much new product and producers that it was great for the industry.  Not only did we get new content but it also brought new names to the forefront.  Correct me if I am wrong but this is where Mike Mearls was discovered and he is one of the big wigs of 5th edition, so thanks OGL.

What is the Dungeon Masters Guild?

Well Wizards of the Coast has gone one step further.  Rather than forcing all of the many creators of Wizards of the Coastgaming content to seek out a publisher for their works it can be uploaded to the Dungeons Masters Guild and offered for sale for whatever price you as the creator set.

As a creator you get half the charged price, which is not bad for not having to go through the leg work of getting it produced and distributed.  Not only that but where the OGL limits some of the intellectual property of WoTC, anything posted to the guild have free use of basically everything and opens it up to the world of Forgotten Realms.

Open gaming licenseMy guess is as they release more information on other campaign settings, they will open up the guild to these other settings.  We are already seeing the release of Ravenloft.  You can read more about that here.  I can’t wait for the exciting possibilities when we get into Dark Sun or Eberron.

So I am going to spend some time looking through the guild, potentially looking for more player options or more monsters and magic items to use when I GM.  If you are already creating something great for you, why not get it up on the guild?

If you have some ideas now is the time to share your unique creations with the rest of the gaming community.  So Thank you Wizards of the Coast for creating not only the OGL but the Dungeon Masters Guild.  I look forward to the many wonderful creations that will come about because of it and just maybe we will get introduced to the new up and coming names within the industry.

As always thanks for reading and Until Next Time, Stay Nerdy!
