Waterdeep Dragon Heist Brings New Icons of the Realms from WizKids

Powerful Potions and Mutated Trolls Await Within Wyestone Horror
The Dungeons and the Dragons of Dungeons & Dragons: Wind Dragon Lairs

Announced during the Stream of Many Eyes were the books Waterdeep Dragon Heist, and Waterdeep Dungeon of the Mad Mage. We get to look forward to a cool city-based adventure as well as an awesome megadungeon before the year is out. But this article is not here to talk to you about that.

Come on, it’s Nerdarchist Ted writing this so therefore it has an 80-90 percent chance to be about dice or miniatures. I do love nicely made pieces of plastic. So what do we have to expect from WizKids with this?

From a WizKids press release:

WizKids Announces D&D Icons of the Realms: Waterdeep Dragon Heist – Coming Soon!

“WizKids is excited to announce the upcoming release of the newest addition to its D&D Icons of the Realms line of pre-painted miniatures: Waterdeep Dragon Heist. Based on the newest Dungeons & Dragons story, Waterdeep Dragon Heist is scheduled to release this fall and features exciting and compelling characters, both heroic and villainous…”

Additionally, customers who pre-order an Icons of the Realms: Waterdeep Dragon Heist standard booster case will have the opportunity to purchase the City of the Dead Statues & Monuments case incentive promotional set while supplies last. This gorgeous set of miniatures includes several beautifully carved statues & monuments as well as several coffins that can be used in a variety of locations!”

Experience the bustling city of Waterdeep, get to know its thrilling characters, and immerse yourself in the adventure with D&D Icons of the Realms: Waterdeep Dragon Heist, releasing September 2018. Pre-order at your FLGS or online today!

I know we are supposed to get some heroes and villains. We get a fiend pact warlock and a new Pit Fiend as well as the mysterious Manshoon. But other specifics that are keeping tight lips on. The article goes on to say that we will get some new animals for use as either companions or for your druid to wild shape into.

We know the box size looks like the other boosters that have come out for fifth edition D&D and the size ranges from small to huge. Part of me thinks this is sad as there’s still a large amount of familiar choices I do not have, so I think this would have been a great place to offer up some size tiny minis. Each box will guarantee a large or huge mini as well as 3 medium or small so you are not stuck getting all small minis in one box.

We also learn about the case incentive promotional set. This one is City of the Dead Statues & Monuments.

There’s gotta be a Manshoon mini up in there right?

Since the case incentive has been a thing I am usually very excited and this one is a bit of a mixed bag. I like getting the really large minis, huge and gargantuan, that you can drop on the table and make the players worry about what they just got them selves into. On the other hand one of my previous articles I talked about the advantage of having set dressings and how if they are cool it adds to the atmosphere of the encounter.

Having statues, monuments and coffins provide terrain and interesting features for characters to move about and hide behind. Maybe the statues can be used for a puzzle you can place on the battle mat. Now your players, not the characters, can physically move the terrain around to try and solve the puzzle. I think I just convinced myself that I am going to need to pick it up.

If you want to help support the channel and get some cool D&D stuff at the same time use this link to Amazon, and pick up the minis or adventures or heck even the dice set affiliated with Waterdeep.
