San-Tac-Laus Delivers Randomized Beholder Cheer for the Holidays

Nerdarchy has shared many great posts over the many years we have been around. But recently something popped back into my mind and it bent and twisted into new directions. There is a post about randomizing the eye rays of a beholder. This was such a good blog post we wound up doing a video on it. We talked about what kind of beholder would have the eye rays that we randomized. But this time of year people are thinking about the holidays and with that the big man known as Santa Claus. What if I were to take the randomized beholder concept and pick the eye rays Santa might have and make a Santa Beholder? I recently picked up am unpainted beholder from WizKids I planned to make into into a Christmas Beholder and all my ideas began to fall into place.

As a holiday present to all of you I am putting together this NPC stat block for you to do with as you will. If you are not as familiar with Nerdarchy’s creation videos we altered the lore and made a change so instead of him being a beholder he is a dread sphere. The Santa Beholder goes against type with a name like this, but then it goes and gives out presents.

So please let me introduce you to San-Tac-Laus. The dread sphere is read and green with powers of cold, ice and creation. San-Tac-Laus likes surprises. So much so that after being around for a while it found enjoyment in surprising others. As its powers grew it realized kids had better reactions than adults and when they got things they desired for no reason it was an even bigger reaction. So it used his vast intellect and mighty powers to concoct a holiday so it has more reason to surprise the children.

San-Tac-Laus live in a mountainous cave in the north. It does prefer the cold after all and has powers to defend itself if attacked, as well as move wherever it needs to be. Its lair is filled with toys it created to practice its abilities. It is a creature of cold and therefore many of its decorations are made of snow and ice; humanoids crudely made of snow and sculptures carved from ice. Icicles hang everywhere in its lair, beautiful but intimidating at the same time. Because of this many find the cave too threatening to enter and this affords San-Tac-Laus his privacy.

So regardless of what holiday you celebrate allow me to give you this wonderful gift in the spirit of giving. Please let me know what you think of this fun little creation. It is meant to be fun and show you a new way to add the holidays into your adventure.
