In this 20-minute video on Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted dive back into the new fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons book Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos. They look at the new 5E D&D mechanics for downtime at a wizard school in this latest D&D and Magic: the Gathering crossover.

Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos contains a whole chapter on managing the campaign for when School’s in Session. The material expands on social interaction with several new subsystems and a whole bunch of NPC student profiles. Guidance for running this style of campaign covers extracurricular activities, jobs, exams and relationships.

In the video they take a closer look at how these subsystems work and discuss Student Dice, Relationship Points, Wages, the Study Phase and Testing Phase for exams — including Cheating and Failed Exams. They also reinforce the value of Session Zero before looking at Making Friends and Rivals, which includes Deepening Relationships along with Boons and Banes gained through them.

Looking for more adventure with lots of social interaction potential? You’ve been invited to the Winter Court Soiree. Within you will find some magical party favors like masks of glamour to wear to the festive party, a few fierce pixies and constructs, some fun denizens of the Winter Court and new spells for this holiday party, ready to drop into your Fifth Edition games.
