In this 10-minute video on Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted react to fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons spells that are reactions. This video topic emerged after research for a top 10 reaction spells video revealed there aren’t enough spells with casting times of one reaction found in official material to fill such a list!

The conversation delves into why this dearth of reaction spells may exist. In the video they discuss each each of reaction spell in 5E D&D, noting some common features among them. For starters they’re all quite useful spells popular with players and found on many a character’s spell list. The majority of them are not found in the Player’s Handbook either. Reaction magic cannot be taken lightly! (Unless you’re creating homebrew abjuration spells, of which the top 10 across three categories include a whole bunch of them.)

  • Absorb Elements
  • Counterspell
  • Feather Fall
  • Gift of Gab
  • Hellish Rebuke
  • Shield
  • Silvery Barbs
  • Soul Cage
  • Temporal Shunt
