Nerdarchy on 5e D&D Spelljammer 1st Impression and Overview

In this 12-minute video on Nerdarchy the YouTube channel Nerdarchists Dave and Ted explore feats in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons for the fighter’s Eldritch Knight Martial Archetype.

The conversation begins with Dave and Ted taking a look at the Eldritch Knight Martial Archetype in general and considering how they operate. This particular fighter subclass relies on various ability scores more than other options, making feats somewhat of a luxury. For example an Eldritch Knight whose spell selections call for saving throws needs Intelligence to go along with whatever ability scores they rely on for their combat prowess. This is something to keep in mind while perusing options for feats. On another note when it comes to choosing a fighting style Eldritch Knight comes with its own particular considerations too.

Speaking of spell selections an Eldritch Knight draws heavily from the evocation school of magic, something worth keeping in mind. If you’re in the market for some new evocation spells to add to your repertoire you might find your next favorite spell among the top 10 homebrew evocation spells by a factor of three.

Diving into the discussion Dave and Ted take a broad look at all the feat options available in 5E D&D and then go over their picks when it comes to synergy for an Eldritch Knight. How would you rank these feats? Is it better to shore up weaknesses and pain points or focus on strengths? Do you prefer passive features providing static benefits at all times or more active options?

The selection of feats begins with one spellcasters of any stripe generally find incredibly useful. Other selections develop an Eldrtich Knight’s magical skills while the final two picks bolster their warrior profile. Speaking of warriors comfortable with sword or spell you can weigh in on whether a Bladesinging wizard or an Eldritch Knight fighter makes a more effective gish here.

If you’re interested in a new Martial Archetype to play we’ve got one of our own for you to try too. A Mane Knight is a disciplined warrior who trains their body, mind and spirit to exemplify ferocity. They trust the enigmatic energy flowing through them along with their own majestic skill to overcome any adversary. Nerdarchist Ted recently played a Mane Knight in a high level one shot and had an absolute blast.

What are your top picks for feats for Eldritch Knight fighters in 5E D&D? Do you know any cool interactions you’ve discovered? Got any interesting experiences to share from times your feat choices made a big impact in your games? Let us know in the comments and as always, stay nerdy!

Sometimes heroes need to dig deeper and become a little more heroic. From Hit Dice to Heroics is a supplement for Fifth Edition. There are over 40 options for spending Hit Dice other than regaining hit points. Players can begin tapping into these options as soon as they hit 2nd level. Your character class and sometimes your subclass determine what option might be available to you. Channel your very vitality into arcane or divine might if you are a spellcaster. A barbarian can channel even more of their mighty totem animal. Fighters are inspired to even deadlier skill with their blade. These are just some of the possibilities found within. There at least three new options for each class. Check it out here!
