Mag of Holding Haunts Your 5E Games with Gothic Horror Just In Time for Halloween

Wild Beyond the Witchlight Adds Delightful 5E D&D Race Options
Roleplaying Games Truly Rock

Penny Dragon Games added another title to their Mag of Holding series, following up on Frozen Wastelands and Pirates & Seafaring with Gothic Horror. This collection of encounters, creatures, curses and lore makes a fantastic asset for any Game Master and with the Halloween season upon us it’s the perfect thematic content for Fifth Edition players.

Nightmare fuel for 5E adventures

Mag of Holding is a terrific magazine for on 5E gameplay with each edition focused on specific themes to become a toolkit and resource for adventures. In addition to GM content there’s also thematic character options for players to explore as well.

Exactly the sort of creepy crawlies and icons of terrifying tales come crammed inside Mag of Holding — Gothic Horror. Foreboding castles, spooky mansions and haunted abbeys play home to fearsome monsters from the darkest depths. These include plenty of horrifying new monsters like the varcolac, an apex predator hybrid of bat, wolf and man hunting under the crimson glow of a blood moon and the daemonifer, hellish spirits inhabiting the flesh of the dead seeking to bargain with mortals at the behest of their fiendish masters.

Players can discover plenty of new toys too. Warlock characters can receive new Pact Boons like the Pact of the Aberration while warriors can wreak havoc with the Whipmaster feat.

Not quite campaign setting and more than simply new mechanical content for GMs and players, what’s great about a Mag of Holding is the super handy curated collection of material all designed around a strong theme. Even groups with longrunning campaigns very often celebrate holidays and other events with special game sessions and with Halloween in just a few weeks this Gothic Horror edition can make this year’s spooky game night something really different and memorable.

One of the highlights of this Penny Dragon Games Kickstarter is they’ve got all the work done already and aim for fulfillment by the end of this month, October 2021. The crowdfunding campaign only runs for 10 days and at the time of this writing there’s 8 days to go. The project was fully funded in 30 minutes and the creators promise Gothic Horror is already written with PDFs to be delivered in time for Halloween this year.

All these creepy new tools, resources and options come together in a selection of harrowing encounters too, plus Penny Dragon aims to release a longer standalone adventure for players to really sink their teeth into along with this Mag of Holding. All the content includes accompanying lore, which is presented is an easily digestible way. A lot of RPG content out there frankly overwhelms me with vast and complex lore and I very much appreciate this approach, which feels more succinct and designed to inspire players to develop our own creative ideas.

Penny Dragon Games hits the vibe I appreciate in game content. The concepts and ideas come across very clearly and this makes it easy to understand where the designers are coming from while still very much feeling like each section provides tools and materials to build your own unique experiences together with your group of players. The pledge levels are very reasonably priced too, and Penny Dragon has already built a reputation for delivering great content with fast turnaround time.
