Jeff Mach talks steampunk and geek culture with Nerdarchy

Yes, YOU can take part in a Marvel Superheroes RPG online!
Nerdarchy the comic book! Issue No. 1

Jeff Mach creates geek events like Steampunk World’s Fair

Jeff Mach from Jeff Mach Events stopped by for a Nerdarchy live chat to talk about conventions, steampunk culture and creating strange, wonderful new homes for people whose interests lie outside the norm. As one of the east coast’s largest creators of unique events for non-normal people, Jeff Mach Events runs the world’s largest indoor Renaissance Faire, Wicked Faire, Steampunk World’s Fair and more.

In addition to event creation and promotion, Mach is a writer and musician, who wrote the first steampunk rock opera, Absinthe Heroes. He talks about this as well as points out several other steampunk musicians worth checking out for those interested in expanding their musical horizons.

Mach has been involved with conventions, festivals and events since his college days and has been a full-time promoter and organizer for the last eight years. Events can run a huge gamut, from participatory to spectator, entertainment to involvement and everything in between. Engaging visitors with new and different experiences lies at the heart of Mach’s endeavors, and he was happy to share his thoughts and insights with Nerdarchists Dave and Ted and the Nerdarchy community.

“We got started with the idea that you could have so much going on that a person never had a moment when they said ‘there’s nothing happening’ or ‘this is boring,'” Mach said of the philosophy behind event creation.

In addition to discussing event creation and promotion, Mach and the Nerdarchists delved into the origins of steampunk, and their personal experience and attachment to the subculture. For Mach, it was exposure to the idea that creative, inspired people gather to share a glimpse of the wonderful world of their imagination brought to life that hooked him immediately.

As an event organizer, Mach believes that anyone who attends an event, whether a diehard fan of the focus or out of the mildest curiosity, is the reason for the event. Everyone’s participation makes any event possible – there’s never such a thing as “just an attendee” in Mach’s mind.

“Anyone who attends an event with an open mind and a desire to learn or enjoy – anyone who does that is making that event possible,” Mach said.
