Famous Wizards of Distinction — Drawmij
Greetings my fellow Nerdarchists. In the weeks and months to come I am going to highlight famous wizards of distinction by delving into the backgrounds and spells of magic users . I have already completed articles on Leomund- the nerdy prepper, Tenser- the One Man Army for Goodness, and Otiluke- the Siege Alchemist.
I will continue focusing on famous wizards of distinction from RPGs but that does not mean I am excluding the backgrounds and spells of magic users from books, movies, and comics.
Give me a compelling example of wizardry and I will write it up.
Now let’s take a look at Jim Ward ‘s character, Drawmij. A wizard played by that guy.
Here are somethings you may not know about him
Drawmij is a man in his 60’s or 70’s during the current Greyhawk campaign setting. He, like many a wizard, appears younger than his true age.
His features are unsettling. This is due to the observer realizing that the wizard’s features are slightly off from the last time they saw Drawmij. It could be the shade of color in his iris, his bulk, height, or even the swirl of his hair that is different. It is slight and the specifics are easily missed by the waking mind but a person does notice that there is an inconsistency even if they cannot place it.
Between his description and created spells Drawmij strikes me as the mysterious traveler who gets himself into trouble but always finds a way to get himself out.
He likes his robes magical and in the style of the magical race of elves.
Drawmij is a card carrying member of the Circle of Eight. He made it through Rary’s betrayal and the restructuring of the Circle. He sure had some choice words and disparaging opinions of the new members, Warnes Starcoat, Alhamazed, and Theodain Eriason.
Drawmij also spends time with the Hierophant Sverdras Meno, a druid who lets him stay at his underwater fortress!
Located a comfortable 150 miles south of Keoland. It is ideal for an man who likes to keep civilization at least a weeks walk away from his undersea sanctum.
How does he get around the hundreds of tons of head popping pressurized water, as well as all kinds of sea creature nastiness?
Well in Drawmij’s undersea apparatus (Dungeon #77) that he made himself, of course.
And like the elvish style robes that he wears he has painted his underwater apparatus in the colors of those people. (Rainbow propulsion included)
Famous Wizards of Distinction: Backgrounds and Spells of Magic Users
Many of Drawmij’s choices and spells point to a man who has done a lot of adventuring and is still alive because when he gets into a tight spot he has the spells and know how to get himself removed from said spot while still breathing.
- Spells for traversing all types of terrain and fleeing danger
- Drawmij’s beast of burden
- Drawmij’s beneficient polymorph
- Drawmij’s breath of life
- Drawmij’s flying feat
- Drawmij’s light step
- Drawmij’s protection from nonmagical gas
- Drawmij’s scent mask
- Drawmij’s swift mount
- Spells for getting out of a tight spot whether dungeon or dragon
- Drawmij’s adventurer’s luck
- Drawmij’s handy timepiece
- Drawmij’s instant exit
- Drawmij’s instant summons
- Drawmij’s iron sack
- Drawmij’s marvelous shield
- Drawmij’s merciful metamorphosis
- Drawmij’s tool box
Lately his studies have been focused on chronomancy, he wants time to be on his side.
He is not a prolific writer like his some of the other Circle of Eight members but he does have one title under his belt, Repertoire of Illustrious Conjurations.
Overall Drawmij is an accomplished traveling mage with a sweet undersea pad and submarine that he made himself. He could be the mysterious traveler you meet during your group’s next random encounter.
