Machine Gun Otto: The Relentless Enforcer of Chaos
In Zoo Mafia, a Powered by the Apocalypse-inspired RPG, there’s no mob boss quite as unpredictable and dangerous as Machine Gun Otto. Known for his utter disregard for collateral damage,
Otto’s approach to criminal operations is simple: shoot first, ask questions never. As one of the most feared figures in the game, Otto’s chaotic leadership style, combined with his willingness to sacrifice even his most loyal subordinates, makes him both a powerful ally and a deadly enemy.
What is Zoo Mafia?
Fueled by the Powered by the Apocalypse engine but hacked with new custom rules, Zoo Mafia allows players to embody anthropomorphic animals climbing the ranks of the criminal underworld. The stakes are high, and every decision made can shape a player’s destiny. Will they rise as a kingpin, or will they fall prey to the more ruthless mob bosses? We brought it to Kickstarter and did not quite make it, but we are not done, not by a long shot. So we are still working hard to bring this game to life. Afterall, every person that has played the game with me has greatly enjoyed it, some have even said that they need it in their life. So join the band wagon and get on board with the kickstarter follow page and the Zoo Mafia newsletter.
I will be running a new Zoo Mafia campaign in the near future on the channel. To hype up the new game, to bring awareness to those who might not have heard of our great game in development I am writing a series of Zoo Mafia RPG posts. Look for new posts every week. Once the new game launches on Youtube I will certainly be talking about it here as well. So be on the watch for a new campaign and a new take on Zoo Mafia RPG. Without further ado lets get into Machine Gun Otto.
Who is Machine Gun Otto?
Machine Gun Otto is the definition of chaos incarnate. Unlike other bosses who value loyalty and control, Otto runs his operation with reckless abandon. He has no qualms about gunning down his rivals in public, without any concern for who gets caught in the crossfire. In fact, Otto’s complete disregard for civilian casualties and his own lackeys is legendary. His followers are fiercely loyal, not because they believe Otto will protect them, but because they’re terrified of him. And Otto? He’s perfectly fine with letting them die in service of his goals.
Strengths of Machine Gun Otto
- Chaotic and Unpredictable: Otto’s greatest strength lies in his unpredictability. His rivals and law enforcement can never anticipate his next move, whether it’s a daring daylight heist or an explosive attack on enemy territory. This constant unpredictability makes him a hard target to pin down.
- Fanatical Loyalty: Otto’s underlings are fanatically devoted to him, willing to lay down their lives at a moment’s notice. This makes Otto’s organization both dangerous and difficult to infiltrate. His henchmen know they’re disposable, and that fear keeps them loyal.
- Master of Guerrilla Warfare: Otto thrives in chaotic environments where his hit-and-run tactics are most effective. His operations are often fast, brutal, and devastating, leaving his enemies with no time to mount a defense.
Weaknesses of Machine Gun Otto
- Recklessness: Otto’s utter disregard for anyone or anything around him can lead to unintended consequences. His tendency to cause massive collateral damage draws attention from both law enforcement and rival factions, leaving openings for those who are patient enough to exploit his carelessness.
- No Room for Subtlety: Otto’s reliance on brute force and chaos is a double-edged sword. While effective in many situations, his rivals know that he lacks the finesse or strategic patience to pull off more subtle or complex operations, making him vulnerable to those who can play the long game.
- High Turnover of Lackeys: While his henchmen are loyal, Otto’s willingness to sacrifice them means that his organization is constantly short-staffed and has to recruit new blood. This high turnover rate sometimes leads to inefficiencies or lack of skilled operatives within his ranks.
How to Use Machine Gun Otto in Your Game
As a Game Master (GM), Machine Gun Otto offers endless possibilities for chaotic and intense encounters. He could be the instigator of high-speed chases, explosive firefights, or dangerous
ambushes. If your players are looking to impress Otto, they’ll need to prove they can survive the chaos and handle themselves in unpredictable situations. Otto respects results, not loyalty, and that makes him a dangerous but lucrative contact for players looking to make a name for themselves.
What kind of Job’s would Otto offer to start off?
Machine Gun Otto’s operations are all about causing chaos and asserting dominance through violent, fast-paced actions. The jobs he hands out to prospective hires would reflect his brutal and reckless nature, testing the players’ ability to handle dangerous tasks without concern for collateral damage. Here are some types of jobs Otto might assign:
1. Smash-and-Grab Heists
Otto is the type to prefer quick, high-impact jobs. He might ask the players to hit a rival gang’s stash or secure supplies from a guarded warehouse. The goal here is speed—get in, cause havoc, take what you need, and get out before anyone knows what hit them.
- Job Example: Steal a shipment of weapons from a rival, leaving a trail of destruction to make sure they know Otto’s responsible.
2. Rival Eliminations
Otto would have no issue sending players to eliminate a rival or someone who’s caused him problems. This job wouldn’t be subtle, as Otto thrives on sending a message to his enemies. He might even expect the players to kill the target in a public or memorable way to inspire fear.
- Job Example: Take out a rival gang leader in the middle of their territory, ensuring that everyone sees it happen.
3. Create Diversions
As someone who thrives on chaos, Otto might ask the players to cause disturbances in certain areas to keep law enforcement or other gangs distracted. This job could involve starting fires, creating panic, or leading the authorities on a wild chase, all to cover for a larger operation.
- Job Example: Stage an explosion in a crowded part of the city to divert attention from a high-profile heist Otto is running elsewhere.
4. Assassinations
For those players who show particular skill in violence, Otto could assign more personal jobs, like assassinating a political figure or an important rival. These hits would be brutal and obvious, ensuring that fear of Otto spreads.
- Job Example: Murder a corrupt politician who has been hindering Otto’s expansion, making sure it looks like a signature “Machine Gun Otto” execution.
5. Supply Interdiction
Otto’s criminal network depends on maintaining control of resources. He might have the players intercept shipments of contraband or essential supplies meant for a rival. This is less about subtle theft and more about making a big statement by violently seizing valuable goods.
- Job Example: Ambush a convoy carrying black-market tech, killing the guards and leaving the scene in disarray.
6. Turf Wars
Otto is constantly seeking to expand
his control, so he might hire players to “send a message” to rival factions trying to infringe on his turf. This job would involve intense, chaotic combat with little regard for minimizing casualties.
- Job Example: Overrun a rival gang’s stronghold, killing or driving off anyone in your way, and leave behind Otto’s mark to claim the territory.
7. Disrupt Rival Operations
Otto’s love for destruction isn’t just about eliminating people; it’s about sabotaging the enemy’s business. He might ask the players to destroy important infrastructure, disrupt supply lines, or break up trade routes to weaken his rivals.
- Job Example: Sabotage a rival’s smuggling operation by destroying their primary ship, leaving it as a smoldering wreck.
8. Prove Yourself in the Arena
Otto could run underground fights as a means of recruitment. He might pit new recruits against each other in brutal arena matches, only hiring those who survive and thrive in this deadly environment.
- Job Example: Enter an underground deathmatch to prove your loyalty and skill to Otto, fighting off other would-be recruits.
Each job Machine Gun Otto assigns would be high-risk, high-reward, and filled with chaotic, violent action. Players trying to impress Otto will have to prove they can thrive in mayhem, be unflinchingly loyal, and show no concern for collateral damage. These jobs would typically be destructive, fast-paced, and focused on asserting Otto’s dominance over his rivals and territory.
Machine Gun Otto is the embodiment of anarchy in Zoo Mafia. His strengths lie in his ability to cause chaos and his relentless disregard for life, while his weaknesses come from the fallout that follows his every move. GMs can leverage his unpredictability to keep players on their toes, ensuring no encounter with Otto is ever the same. Want to run a game where mayhem reigns supreme? Otto’s the perfect antagonist to get things started.
