Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition – Race – Catfolk

With the amount of attention that cats and kittens get on the internet I am surprised that the catfolk are not even in the monster manual let alone have the stats to use them as player characters.  So let me fix that for you.  Here is my take on catfolk for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition with a little bonus.

Catfolk in 5th edition

Catfolk are nomadic hunters.  They have no land that they can call a determinant home in an of the known Dungeons and Dragons realms.  As long as they have food and family they can be secure in any place.

Catfolk are prone to quick action and astonishing bursts of speed making other races seem slow in comparison.  Catfolk  resemble a cross between a human and large hunting cats.  Their coats contain all the variety of their four footed cousins and these markings make no hold over who is in charge or does what job.

Unlike human society the males are the ones who typically wear their hair long, like a lion.  Some even posses such manes.  Many warriors of the tribe actually braid their hair to keep it out of their face during combat.

Catfolk  are very superstitious.  Many catfolk carry talismans or even have them worn in their fur for a large variety of effects, such as luck, good fortune or to ward off a bad omen.

As I wanted to offer more variety to the race I am propsing two subraces for the catfolk.  The Lytah are the smaller of the two being more closely related to the Cheetah or the Lynx.  The Tigrons are larger and more closely resemble Lions and Tigers. Your subrace does not limit or change the possible fur color or pattern.

Darkvision.  Accustomed to hunting and traveling at night, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.  You can’t discern color in darkness only shades of gray.

Pounce.  You can exhibit bursts of speed unrivaled by other races.  For one action you can double your speed.  You can do this again once you finish a short or long rest.

Subrace.  Your ancestral heritage determines you overall size and abilities.  Lytah or Tigron each with its own abilities and appearance.
