Star Wars Role Playing Game – Edge of the Empire
I know that many of you have been playing Role Playing Games for a while. If you have not played the Fantasy Flight Role Playing Game Star Wars you are missing out. I am going to do a review of the three core books over the next few weeks. Today I wanted to specifically review the Edge of the Empire.
Edge of the Empire is a complete rule book. If you wanted to play a game that deals more with mercenaries and not affiliated with any organization, this is the game for you.
Edge of the Empire Star Wars RPG
In Edge of the Empire all players have to deal obligation. Obligation may be a direct physical thing of owing credits to someone or they might be intangibles in what favors you might have to do. Every character has an obligation score and it can come up each session until the obligation is dealt with.
In star wars everyone has a race or this game a species. The species that is presented in this book are; Bothans, which many died to bring us the correct plans. They are a smaller animal like race. You have Droids, they might be the droids you are looking for. All the basic droid types you see in the movie are possible. You can also choose Gands. Gands are an instectoid race best seen as an assassin Empire Strike Back.
You of course can play your basic humans from all corners of the galaxy. Rodians are another option in case Jabba the Hut wants to send you after a solo character. If you want to be pretty and go dancing you can play a Twi’lek with your fabulous lekku. If your bounty hunting party want to join the bounty hunters guild you can join as a trandoshan like the famous Bossk. And if you have a droid that needs its arms ripped off feel free to play a furry Wookie.
Star Wars offers a diverse world to play in and explore. As varies as the races are so are your class or career options. Each career offers three specializations within that career path. I am not going to talk about each but they are related and can have some cross over.
Should you care more about acquiring targets and getting paid for it you can play a bounty hunter, rule the galaxy with credits hauled in for your famous catches. You can play a colonist applying your trad across the galaxy. An explorer tries to find new territories and is an excellent companion for any who is traveling the galaxy. As a hired gun you offer less of a tracker of a bounty hunter but more of a specialized combatant. The last two are the smuggler and the technician which really need no explanation.
With over 450 pages of rules, races and awesome options you can dive in and play some great games within the Star Wars universe. The Star Wars Role Playing Game is worth reading and investing in and is a great investment. You can get your copy of Edge of the Empire here.
