Forging Bastion — 5E D&D Magic Item

Rise of the Mongrelfolk in Chimes of Discordia for 5E D&D
Saurial Playable Race for 5E D&D

customized magic itemNerdarchist Ted here and I am hear to expand on our video series Mage Forge making customized magic items for 5th edition.  Today we delve more into the magic item we created for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition; Bastion the Pact of the Ogre Magi.

Alex Maxwell gave us the inspiration for reskinning a magic item and making it something unique and interesting.  I feel that making new customized magic items makes the party more excited because it is not something out of the book and it enriches the world because someone had to have made it.

Bastion -customized magic item; weapon – uncommon (requires attunement)

This weapon once attuned confers a 19 strength to the attuned as long as this weapon is within 30 feet.

The attuned can understand giant.  When you attune to this weapon you have disadvantage to all attacks using any weapon but this one.  Additionally after you attune to this weapon your hunger increases and you generally eat with abandon.  You suffer disadvantage to all charisma checks while in the presence of food.

If this was not enough when sitting idle the wielder feels compulsion to pay attention to the weapon.  be it inspecting it for flaws or burs to burr out or to just lovingly caress it or even just touch it to feel close.

The weapon functions as a great axe or great club.  The haft is made from a dark wood just shy of being called black.  The blade of the great axe is a dull steel that never is shiny and flecked with streaks of blood. It always looks like it has freshly wounded a creature.

The is called blood-steel and is created by the ogre-magi of Chimes of Discordia.  The haft of the axe/club has bits and shards of this same metal so that it can tear and crush its enemies.

History of this customized magic item

Hundreds of years ago Fazenic the Ogre-magi had a gifted brother in the magical arts.  Cinezaf Dungeons and Dragons 5th editionunderstood magic unlike other Ogre-magi but he did so at a terrible price.  He was frail and weak while others of his kind were strong and hardy.  When Cinezaf was stricken with disease he began a ritual with his brothers assistance.

Cinezaf feeling his life was ending trapped his life essence into a shard of Blood steel.  Fazenic Gifted in the ways of magic and aided by the notes of his brother worked the shard into a weapon he was making.  he named the weapon Bastion and to one of his kind so large and fierce it was a weapon to be wielded in one hand.

Years later Fazenics power was being threatened by another ogre-magi, as they are known to do, and he sought out another source of power to put down his rival.  The Blood Teeth, a savage tribe of orcs that laired nearby, could be the answer.

He took up Bastion, feeling the power and life of his dear brother inside and magiced his way to the home of these orcs.  He was of course challenged for his impetuousness by the eager and stupid of the tribe.  A weeding process any good leader knows.  Fazenic put them down with magic and axe alike.

When the rest held back awaiting their leader, he relaxed his posture.  The chieftain showed himself full of confidence and power.  The orc sized up the Ogre knowing that he would put on a fight fir for the stories of his kin but he knew without a doubt he would not be able to slay the greater being.

The ogre threw down the customized magic item at the orcs feet, encouraging him to take it.  Unsure and suspecting a rouse or trap the orcs slowing took the axe into his hands.  The magic filled him.  Normally a process taking time took place in seconds.

From the moement the axe was picked up the Ogre began speaking.  All the orcs looked on in confusion as their brains were too filled with combat and lust to understand the complexities of the giant tongue.  The chieftain mid sentance understood.  He glance at the new weapon in renewed awe and respect.

A pact was made between Orc and Ogre that with might and magic they would fell their adversaries of both and the rise to power will be swift and glorious.  The orc chieften was replaced every so often as is the nature of their kind but each new chief would take the weapon and respect the Pact sensing the power and knowing that it could be taken away by the powerful Ogre.

The Blood teeth rose as the hieght of orc power in the region and their tribe grew to vast sizes taking in those from other tribes wanting to be in a stronger position.  The Ogre-Magi was uncontested for a long time for his kin.

Though the date was never recorded The axe disappeared from the stories of the Blood Teeth, and without it they fell from power.  The Ogre-Magi too grew too cocky and was brought down by a trusted lieutenant and little has been spoken of his since.

So there you have it. new customized magic item for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. If you would like to see us do a Mageforge on an idea you have let us know. “Until Next time, Stay Nerdy!”
