Board Games in Review – Smash Up – Munchkin Part 2

Board Games in Review - Smash Up - Munchkin Part 1
Board Games in Review - Quadrillion - Logic Game

Smash Up MunchkinWell it is that time again and Happy Monday.  Today I am going to bring you part 2 of my review of Smash Up Munchkin.  You can find part 1 right here.  I already went over four of the factions and monsters in last weeks article.  I also explained how monsters actually add to the break point of bases.

When a monster is defeated usually through the use of an action the player responsible can earn treasure for defeating that monster.  Treasure cards go to your hand but once used go to their own discard pile making for just a little extra clean up.  How ever you get your treasure once in your hand they still break down into the two standard card types, Action or Minion.

What factions will you team up in Smash Up Munchkin?

None of the treasures are over powered, in my opinion, but they do have a variety of abilities and with Smash Upcertain combinations it can make for some serious deadly combinations.  The one potion allows you to copy any talent.  There are some potent talents in the game.  Just imagine your opponent using a powerful ability twice on his turn.  It can get bad quick.

The art work really gives you the feel of the munchkin game and many of the cards in this set fit the theme really well.  It was quite enjoyable to just look through and read all the cards.  It gave me quite a few chuckles.

Warrior – Warriors are your fighters.  As one would think this deck is all about fighting monsters.  There are a few cards that are designed for killing monsters to fit with the theme but are worded in such a way to allow you to take out other players minions.   These guys are a 10-10 split, like every other faction in this set. A very nice combo is to put the eternal warrior on your big hero.  This allows you to keep getting and killing monsters, racking up those treasures.

Mages – Mages are the king of options, typically, and here is no different.  The power of this deck is in depleting your hand to gain benefits.  You can discard to draw cards.  You can discard to play extra Smash Upcards.  You can even discard to kill minions.  You can hook this deck up with Ghosts to maximize your limited hand or team up with the Wizards to get that draw power back keeping your hand nice and full.

Thieves – Dwarves like getting treasures and Mages like discarding cards, well Thieves like to discard or reveal their treasures for rewards.  Like quick VPs or even to kill other minions.  But Thieves would be useless unless they have easy ways of getting treasures.  And thankfully they do.  Eight of your twenty cards get you a treasure card.  Four of your cards gets you the ability to go right to VP.  That is much faster than the Aliens 2 cards.  You could pair these guys with the aliens for the even quicker VP gain or with Ninja for the extra stealth options.  And who does not like killing their opponents minions.

Orcs – Orcs are all about strength and here is no different.  Orcs have a staggering 3 minions with a 5 power and if that was not enough they have cards that help you stop being the target of your opponents abilities.  Orcs give you some strategic cards for manipulating the battlefield.   You get 7 cards of being immune to other player actions, You get 6 cards that remove minions from the battlefield as well as some other boosts and direct VP gain.  Orcs are a strong and diverse deck.  Personally I think they pair well with Pirates and Dinosaurs.  And come on how many of you want to see Orcs riding Dinosaurs equipped with lasers?

So what do you think of Smash Up Munchkins?  What combinations do you feel are the most powerful? If you have not gotten your copy of Smash Up Munchkin you can do so here.

As always Thanks for reading.  If there is something you want me to review comment below or send us an email Nerdarchy @ gmail.com  Until Next Time, Stay Nerdy!
