Super Nerd Skills | Free Running / Parkour with Real-Life Cosplay Traceurs
Greetings fellow Nerdarchists to Super Nerd Skills where I showcase a nerdy skill each week. This week we are taking a look at Free Running and Parkour with Real-Life Cosplay Traceurs. If you don’t know what it is that is okay because there are several french words in that last sentence, you get a pass.
Free Running and Parkour are both listed because they are similar but distinct enough styles that people can learn the difference. Parkour is a skill that focuses on efficiently moving through any terrain.
For example. If you are on the street and your car is in a parking garage on the third floor you could take the stairs, the elevator, or… you could jump up onto the brick barrier, scale a drainpipe, leap onto an adjacent roof, and then leap across to the second floor of the parking garage and then climb to the third floor.
While most people see that as ridiculous, practiced parkour traceurs (people who practice parkour) see it as the best way to go. If you were free running you may throw a few back flips and spins into the traversal.
So parkour traceurs travel quick and efficient while free running runners are “free” to make it as an ascetically pleasing event as they desire.
But wait this sounds like one needs to be in shape to do all of this. Doesn’t that make them Super non- Nerd Skills?
The stereotype of a nerd is portrayed as a person with poor eyesight, poor strength, and poor social skills all while being rich in knowledge. This is simply a stereotype. I like to judge nerds by their actions not by their physical traits.
I submit to you that anyone who does cosplay as a video game character, then does live action roleplaying (as said character) and then doubles down by drawing more attention to themselves through jumping around and doing flips is showing some mad super nerd skills!
Now let us lay the questions down for right now and turn the sound on your device UP for the following three examples from Warialasky and Devinsupertramp.
Below is a cool Mario Brothers themed free running found on Warialasky’s Youtube channel
Devinsupertramp does a series of live action free running
Assassin’s Creed Videos with stunts performed by Ronnie Shalvis
Next is an excellent short of a Watch Dogs’ parkour video featuring Chris Romrell
and Robert Bennett as well as Wheezy Waiter who played the main officer
