The Relativist, a Psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition | D&D 5e

Do you enjoy using a custom class in your games?Have you ever wanted to make your own class for D&D?The Relativist, a Psionic custom for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition | D&D 5e

Let me take you through the process as I create a psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.

Today I am going through the Relativist. Some of you may know it by other names but it can be summed up by one concept- Space-Time.

This discipline is completely about affecting the time and space inside and outside of their own self. They are the time twisters, space benders, and meta-physicists of Psionics.

Skipping through space-time, speeding an individual’s metabolism to the point that they recover from injuries at a supernatural rate, watching plants grow- fast, and creating swords out of little slivers of other planes of existence…

All of these fall within the realm of the Psionic custom class, the Relativist.

I made my own Psionics for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition because I wanted to show others how they could develop their own custom class without writing an entire separate book.

98% of the spell powers for the Psionic class are right out of the 5th edition spell list (I have written up 3 cantrips and 3 other powers, i.e psychic blast). Everything else that gives the psionic flavor is built into the class features of each discipline.

The Relativist happens to be developed off of a combination of Monk and Sorcerer classes with Sorcerer as the base.

Why those two class combinations? It will become apparent soon. Now on to the class features.

Note- 1st through 20th level is the same for the Psionic class as it is in the Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition Player’s Handbook for the Wizard class when considering the following: Proficiency Bonus and Cantrips Known.

For the Optional Spell Point rules that are used to fuel psionic powers look here (Dungeon Master’s Guide, pg. 288).

Now onto the Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition custom class: The Relativist

Ok, I have to admit you got me just since I read "Relativist", and looking further into the class it's a really cool job. Later I'll check the video too, and I'll take some time to make considerations and see if I come up with some ideas to help develop this magnificent concept that I'd love to see complete and try out.

PD: Still waiting for the Psychic Warrior!

Well, Nate, I just watched the video and something came to my mind about Speed of Thought. I understand your point about "on Psionics everything is related to the mind" because it's a discussion I had in the past when they presented a Psionics previous to the 3.5 Expanded Psionics, where they set for the class a different key ability based on the chosen discipline. I hated that, and simply refused to play the class at all. Later it was like they heard my complains 'cause for the Expanded Psionics they made Int the class key ability.
Now, that said, I've been thinking about Speed of Thought (which is also a feat on the Expanded Psionics related to Wisdom that lets you add +10' to your speed) I have to agree with Dave it would be more balanced if it's not related to their key ability, and considering what you said about "being aware of something is not the same as being able to read the situation and understand what's going on" Based on that I'd say Speed of Thought is more than just reflexes or awareness and I can see it perfectly related to Intelligence.

wrinkle of time is a Huge power, once you determine that Wis 20 character or level 6 character caps out at a max +6 initiative and immense perception, you've giving a huge feat that then can be combined with a rogue assassin build, and with the granted movement freedom, wow….very deadly.

being proficient with both dex and wisdom is HUGE as well btw, usually on of the stats is weak…..I'd suggest Dex/ INT like the rogue
