As of March 30, 2018, Paizo officially launched a new show on their Twitch channel. While the title of the show is still being tossed around it is hosted by Paizo’s Director of Game Design Jason Bulmahn and Marketing Manager Dan Tharp. They’ve worked time into a schedule that I wouldn’t even dream of trying to handle, to sit down once a week to bring us some updates and have a bit of a Q&A with the fans. Paizo’s Pathfinder and Starfinder news and entertainment live streams on Fridays at 7 p.m. eastern on Twitch.

With this being the first episode of many more to come, it was mostly a recap of what’s been happening so far. They talked of the unveiling, the crazy travel schedule, the now four-part series with the guys from Glass Cannon, and of course the content released for the playtest site. During the recap section they spoke of the fun they had at Gary Con and the first playtest demo there. The team also has an action-packed few weeks coming up with three conventions near back to back. PaizoCon May 25-28, UK Games Expo June 1-3, and Origins June 13-17. If you happen to be at one of these cons and see these fine folks, please, bring them a coffee. They’ll need it.

One of the things mentioned prior to the Q&A was the blog posting for the new Crit/fail system that will be in Pathfinder Second Edition. They mentioned there will be four degrees of crit/fail this time around. You will have critical success which comes from a natural 20 or by exceeding the DC by 10 or more; a success, which is either hitting the DC or exceeding it by 5 or more; a fail, which is missing the DC by 5 or more; and lastly, the dread critical fail which is missing the DC by 10 or more, or the dreaded natural 1. For more on this blog take you can find it on the playtest site.

During the Q&A Bulmahn took the time to clarify what the company meant by “simplifying the game.” In short, they are trying to set the game in a way that any one can approach it and get it. Once you “get it” you then continue learning and picking up the ins and outs as you go.

From there they spoke briefly of Doomsday Dawn, the new playtest adventure. The design is set for level range of 1-20 with seven sections to it. The adventure is a bit like a time walk giving you much like a prologue for several pre-existing adventure paths. Not much more information was given on it to prevent spoiling playtest results.

All Pathfinder Playtest products will be released as free downloads exclusively Paizo’s wesbite on August 2, 2018.

Long time RPG enthusiast, I first started with D&D back when I was 7, then jumped back into it again at 14 when I could understand what I was reading. I've tinkered as a story teller in many different game systems from Gurps, to Vampire, to most recently in Savage Worlds: Rippers Ressurected, though I've never forgotten my love for D&D.
