Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e The Sorcerer

druidsHello fellow Nerdarchests, Art here. I’m back with the third installment of my series Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e. If you missed my previous article on the Cleric just click HERE.

Today we are going to be covering the wonderful menagerie of… The Druid

As always I’d like to take a few lines to address the class as a whole. The Druid in 5e  is very well thought out, but from a supplement stand point not allot of love has been given to them as a class. This means they currently are pigeon-holed into one major type of single class character, where with this article I hope to shed some light on things you can do to “Spice” up your Druid and make them more interesting as a character.

Now let’s get started. The first build I’d like to cover is The Druid tank as it is called. This being taking 4 levels of Barbarian Path of the Totem Warrior and selecting the Bear as you totem spirit. This giving you resistance while Raging to everything but psychic damage. The remainder 16 levels of Druid Circle of the Moon, allowing you to transform into large scary beasts with massive hit-point pools able to heal themselves y spending spell slots. This is a VERY powerful build given the ability to Rage and add bonus damage to your natural weapon attacks as well as reduce the damage you take and heal yourself as well. As a side note on this build I’d like to give an honorable clericmention to the new Battle Ragger Barbarian Path in Sword Coast Adventure’s Guide as this would be another awesome addition to Circle of the Moon Druid with most of the beast forms. Grappling and being able to still bite, claw and sting your way to victory seems awesome!

Next, I want to cover an aspect of the Druid most people think is underpowered and that is the Circle of the Land. After studying this type of Druid and other classes as well, I have come to see its usefulness and understand things you can do with it not only as a healer but offensive as well. This offensive side only comes from multi-classing with the Cleric and the Domain of Nature. Taking 8 levels of Cleric and 12 levels of Druid Circle of the Land not only gives you massive spell selections but also Divine Strike from the Cleric allowing you to stand toe to toe in a fight and dish out damage but also to protects party members from harm using Dampen Elements from the Cleric and making you immune to poison and disease with Nature’s Ward from the Druid. This further adding to your survivability. Bark Skin and Shield of Faith along with an actual shield, gives you a decent armor class as well. So, you see Druid of the Land is not that bad when multi-classed.

circleNext up is a build that is rather unique in that it is not the most optimal build but very entertaining. This also comes from the new Sword Coast Adventure’s Guide and uses the Druid Circle of the Moon. First you will only be taking 12 Druid levels allowing you to Wild Shape into pretty nasty beasts like Polar Bears and Giant Eagles. Next you’ll take 8 levels of Monk and Way of the Sun Soul. The Monk levels augment your armor class while in beast form and with Way of the Sun Soul now your beast form shoots “LAZERS“! So you basically become a walking turret cannon able to heal yourself and shoot enemies with 1d6 radiant energy beams. Wild Shaping into a flying creature gives you the advantage in open field combat able to spend Ki Points to fire multiple shots. This is a very fun build it seems to me, I figured I’d share it with you as well.

Well that’s all I have for you this time. Tune in next time “Same Bat Time! Same Bat Channel!’ when we will be taking a look at multi-class builds on the battle field with…the Fighter!.

So until next time… Stay Nerdy!
