Marvelous Phile: Marvel Super Heroes RPG Live Game Play Chat is Good Karma

How D&D Beyond Revealed the Elegance of a Classic D&D Fighter
D&D Goes Sci-Fi with Hyperlanes

Hey, guys, Professor Bill here and it’s time to start off the Marvel Super Heroes Roleplaying Game the right way by revamping the old Marvel Philes that used to run out of Dragon Magazine. We’re going to call this the Marvelous Phile (to avoid copyright).

So let’s talk chat participation (because my editor, Doug, is the boss and he promised torture if I didn’t obey. (Do you think he reads these?) [EDITOR’S NOTE: Yes, Prof. He does ;)]

Karma rules all in the Marvel game

So here are the rules:

First off, we’re going to have a leader in the chat. The leader will be determined by the first (non-player) person in the chat to answer a question posed by the Judge. The Judge reserves the right to have another player ask the question and it should be comic book related (preferably Marvel) but there is room for change.

The leader in the chat will have the advantage of controlling the chat karma pool for the day’s game. Hence, a new question will be asked weekly and everyone who is on time for the game gets the opportunity to vie for chat leader for that week.

Now, for the audience participation, I’m going to leave it up to the players. I’m going to have a range from 5-25 karma that can go into a “chat pool” and each player gets to choose how much they think the chat should get for each participation.

Example: A chat participation session is finished, the players each get to add anywhere from five (5) to twenty-five (25) points into the “chat pool” for later use. The player may not opt for more or less than the prescribed limits.

Note: It is expected that stingy players should be dog-piled if they are continually cheap while players who are consistently, too generous should be seen as weak and similarly dog-piled for trying to panhandle the chat.

The current chat leader is who determines how much karma each chat member can use during participation moments. It is entirely the leaders’ discretion how much karma will be dispensed, or not. Therefore, the non-leadership chat participants are encouraged to come up with creative uses for their actions.

Bonus!

The Universal Table determines the outcome of all the action in the Marvel Super Heroes RPG

Each player in the game is allowed, besides the contribution to the chat pool, one vote as to who the MVP of the session was in the chat. Whoever gets the most votes (the Judge will act as the tie-breaker) will get a “chat attack” bonus for use the next session.

This bonus will be determined by the Judge; however, your Judge is a merciful Judge. We’ll arrange something that will make you happy at the next encounter.

Hopefully, this will even out the chat to regulate your great power. More than this, it will encourage teamwork.

Next week, we’ll try to have some stats for players and or NPC’s. That’s all for this week.

What about karma that you call out to a specific person
