Kickstarter – Lazer Ryderz! The Totally Rad Tabletop Racing Game!

Board Games in Review - Pyramid Arcade, Looney Pyramids - Kickstarter
Kickstarter - Deep Madness - Tabletop Miniature Board Game Inspired by Lovecraftian Design

lazer ryderz! kickstarter tabletopOur friends over at Cardboard Fortress Games are at it again.  This time they jumped into a time machine and took us back to the 80s.  Not only because their game reminds us of Tron, but the artwork, lingo and even their video harkens back to that time frame.

Lazer Ryderz! is a great board game where even the shape of your playing space can have an effect on the game.  Each player in Lazer Ryderz! takes the place of one rider zooming through space trying to claim these prisms.  When your marker crosses a prism completely it changes to your color and you are that much closer to victory.

When you claim a prism the blank prism goes back onto the board thus increasing the number of prism available.  One once player has three prisms claimed at the same time they win the game.  But it is not as simple as that.  There are complications.

For starters you cannot cross another players laser line.  If you do you crash and have to restart on a   lazer ryderz! kickstarter tabletoptable edge. Players can score or claim any prism so even if you were the first to it it can be stolen from you.  If that was not enough each of the Lazer Ryderz! has a unique power that they can use once.  They get their power back if another player claims a prism that they had scored.

At a recent gaming session we had a chance to check this game out and it was a lot of fun.  Nerdarchist Dave wound up winning.  He has a knack for winning play-test games.  It was a challenging that requires layers of strategy as you attempt to navigate other players lasers, managing what gear you should be in to handle the turn you want to make now or in the future, try to claim prisms and remember to use your special power at the right time so that it does not go to waste.

You can back the kickstarter here.  If you back this on kickstarter your copy of Lazer Ryderz! will come lazer ryderz! kickstarter tabletopwith, as of now, 2 promo characters.  While it will not change the number of players in the game it does create new options.  Each of these promo characters will have their own unique power thus changing the strategy of the game.  The promo Characters are:

” Captain Cosmic – a hero from our hit cooperative comic book card game Sentinels of the Multiverse – blasts through space as a Lazer Ryder, seeking to unlock the power of the ancient Prizms. Other Ryderz – beware! Captain Cosmic’s powers allow him to create golden constructs in space that can block travel or even cause a crash!”

Visionary, a recent unlocked stretch goal, is also from Sentinels of the Multiverse.  Her special power is a mystery.  We will have to wait and see.

Please go check this game out.  They have just over a week left and there are still some very cool stretch goals to unlock.  I can’t wait until I have my own copy of Lazer Ryderz!
