Kickstarter Korner for August 2018, Week 3

WizKids Miniatures Review -- Pathfinder Battles -- Jungle of Despair
WizKids Miniatures Review - D&D Icons of the Realms - Monster Menagerie 3

Each week during the Quests & Adventures live chat, Saturday at 2 p.m. eastern, Nerdarchists Dave and Ted and Nate the Nerdarch hang out live with fans from the Nerdarchy YouTube channel. It’s a chance to share announcements and news, answer questions from the live chat and generally just hang out and talk nerdy with the Nerdarchy community.

In the description of each weekly video, Nerdarchist Ted compiles a list and links to all the videos and website content from the week. But he also shares a selection of cool Kickstarter campaigns. As an avid Kickstarter supporter, he’s happy to share his favorite RPG and gaming-related Kickstarters with you, the Nerdarchy community. Enjoy!

Protip: Take risks. I wrote a while back about what we can learn from our RPG characters, and one of those things is to take risks. I’m certainly not advocating putting yourself in harm’s way, but learning when to take chances when the outcome has a possibility of loss is a good practice.

In an RPG situation, you’ve got nothing tangible to lose when your characters take risky chances. Sure, there’s the investment of time and energy if a character dies as a result, but you the player and your friends around the table don’t suffer any harm. (I know, we get attached to our characters and it can hurt when they perish, but you get to make and play new ones!) I’d be willing to bet more RPG players remember those awesome times the party dove headfirst into danger and narrowly survived than the times everyone played it safe.

Outside of an RPG campaign, it is really useful to recognize your fears about any particular situation and take a risk by facing them. This weekend, I am relocating from my home in Cleveland, Ohio to the greater Philadelphia area. I’ll be right there at Nerdarchy HQ working alongside the Nerdarchy crew as we continue to push ourselves to create better content for you. I’ve moved around a lot in my life, professionally and personally. I lived in Big Bear, California until our house burned down. Moved to Austin, Texas for a job, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for culinary school. I took a one-way flight to Europe. I barely ever considered risk, or if I did my thirst for adventure and discovery of new places outweighed it.

Now that I’m older, making risky moves can cause anxiety. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been chewing my nails off wondering if this latest move is the best thing to do. But you know what? I won’t know unless I give it a shot. It will be really cool to be at ground zero with the rest of the Nerdarchy crew. We can get a lot done remotely from each other now, and I am confident we’ll up our game more being able to work together in person. (Also I’m gonna weasel my way into their home game group by hook or by crook.)

So as you move forward through life and through adventures at the gaming table, it’s smart to be considerate and thoughtful about decisions big and small. But sometimes you just gotta say WTF and risk unknown outcomes to see what happens. Take the plunge, and of course, stay nerdy!
