Kickstarter Korner for August 2018, Week 2

Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes -- Halflings and Gnomes in D&D
RPG Crate Uboxing -- July 2018

Each week during the Quests & Adventures live chat, Saturday at 2 p.m. eastern, Nerdarchists Dave and Ted and Nate the Nerdarch hang out live with fans from the Nerdarchy YouTube channel. It’s a chance to share announcements and news, answer questions from the live chat and generally just hang out and talk nerdy with the Nerdarchy community.

In the description of each weekly video, Nerdarchist Ted compiles a list and links to all the videos and website content from the week. But he also shares a selection of cool Kickstarter campaigns. As an avid Kickstarter supporter, he’s happy to share his favorite RPG and gaming-related Kickstarters with you, the Nerdarchy community. Enjoy!

Protip: Stay motivated. Like a lot of these protips, this one applies to time both at the gaming table and away. We can learn a lot through our games, and likewise apply what we learn from “real life” to our grand campaigns.

When it comes to running a game, whether it’s fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons, Starfinder, Blades in the Dark, Weave, Kids on Bikes or whatever RPG you’re into, motivations are a crucial element. No Game Master can predict how a story will unfold, or what the players and their characters will do from session to session. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times — you can consider a million possibilities, and players will do the millionth and first. But if you create NPCs and antagonists with motivations, you can roll with it much easier when the story goes in unexpected directions (and it will). The creatures and characters populating your world have reasons for doing whatever it is they do. Hunger, survival, taking over another plane or whatever. Keeping motivations in mind is a great way to keep the game moving forward when you’re not sure what a particular entity would do or say in response to the player characters.

Outside of the game, between sessions or really in any circumstances, it can be easy to get distracted or discouraged. A job or school, family, or other responsibilities might feel overwhelming. You might feel down, thinking about the past and what might be different if you’d made different decisions. Or you could experience anxiety, wondering about the future and if you’re moving forward on the right path. At those times, remember your own motivations.

Whether you’re stuck on what to do for the next session of your campaign or what to do with your life in general, remind yourself of the goals you make and why you made them, and let that motivation carry you forward.

And stay nerdy too.
