Kickstarter Korner for August 2018, Week 1

Each week during the Quests & Adventures live chat, Saturday at 2 p.m. eastern, Nerdarchists Dave and Ted and Nate the Nerdarch hang out live with fans from the Nerdarchy YouTube channel. It’s a chance to share announcements and news, answer questions from the live chat and generally just hang out and talk nerdy with the Nerdarchy community.

In the description of each weekly video, Nerdarchist Ted compiles a list and links to all the videos and website content from the week. But he also shares a selection of cool Kickstarter campaigns. As an avid Kickstarter supporter, he’s happy to share his favorite RPG and gaming-related Kickstarters with you, the Nerdarchy community. Enjoy!

Protip: Recognize when it’s time to take a breather. Whether you’re playing an epic 10-hour game session, or soaking up all there is to see and do at a convention like Gen Con, sometimes you need to step back and relax a little bit. On the one hand, it’s a clever excuse for being late posting this weeks Kickstarter Korner, but in all seriousness, it’s important to take care of your body, mind and spirit, recharge your batteries and gain fresh perspectives.

While the Nerdarchy crew was having a blast at Gen Con 2018, we were all working our butts off too. Networking, brainstorming with peers and colleagues — and shooting LOTS of videos with a ton of special guests! Folks like Monte Cook, Sarah Dahlinger, James J. Haeck, BJ Hensley and many others swung by the special Gen Con Nerdarchy studio to talk nerdy about all sorts of RPG topics like worldbuilding, running urban adventures, playing games online and I can’t even tell you how many other topics.

But in between all that video shooting we made sure to relax a bit and enjoy all the wonderful stuff Gen Con has to offer, including one of our favorite things about conventions — meeting up with friends from all over the place. We hung out with Cody from Taking 20, Andrew of Dawnforgedcast, unMadeGaming’s Mike Hunt and a bunch of others at a Twitch streamer meetup. We took in our friends’ Seth Polansky, Kelley Slagle and Brian Stillman’s mesmerizing film Eye of the Beholder: The Art of Dungeons & Dragons (which won the Gen Con award for Best Documentary. We even wound up at a party hosted by Peter Adkinson where we ran into friends like Satine Phoenix and Ruty Rutenberg. (And where Nerditor Doug geeked out about editing and layout design with Chris De La Rosa from Hunters Books.)

The point is, as much as everyone here at Nerdarchy LOVES games and creating content about them to share with you, it’s critical to remember every so often you’ve got to step back and take a breath. When you get back to work (or your best game ever) you’ll hit the ground running with renewed energy, passion and ideas. Stay nerdy!
