D&D Campaign Settings — Eberron has Come to Adventurers League and 5E

Way of the Zen Archer Monastery for 5E D&D
Forest Kingdom Campaign Compendium for 5E D&D

While at GenCon 2018 we got to sit down with Keith Baker creator of the Eberron — one of the official D&D campaign settings. Eberron was launched via a contest during third Edition Dungeons & Dragons. It was then updated to fourth edition D&D. Now on the DM’s Guild you can pick up the Wayfarer’s Guide to Eberron the 5E D&D conversion. On Sept, 21, 2018, Adventurers League started offering an Eberron Campaign. Normally Adventurers League is PHB +1. For the Eberron campaign it will be Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, and bugbears, goblins, and hobgoblins from Volo’s Guide to Monsters.

If you aren’t familiar with Eberron it’s a arcana punk setting. It takes place after a 100-year war between what is now the five nations of Khorvaire. The catalyst for the ending of the war is a apocalyptic event known as the Mourning. It wiped out Cyre, one of the warring nations, and no one knows what happened, leaving behind a haunted wasteland. Nothing like the threat of an apocalypse to bring people together.

Eberron is a rich world full magic, intrigue, and almost everything from 5E D&D plus previous editions of the game. Keith Baker maintains a website where he offers up ideas and thoughts on his creation. Over on the DM’s Guild you can find the older books from previous editions of D&D for sale as PDFs. While I’ve always felt you can play any type of game in nearly any of the D&D campaign settings, Eberron just seems to lend itself to wide variety of fantasy genre mash-ups.

  • Want a western feel? Look at the Grey Wall settlement on the out skirts of Droaam, the nation of monsters, where wandslingers can square off at high noon
  • Want to run high flying urban adventures? You should look at the City of Towers — Sharn, built on a manifest zone that allows air magic to function easier. When I say high flying I mean it literally
  • Want dungeon delves? There are plenty of those in Xen’drik as well as scorpion-worshiping drow [NERDITOR’S NOTE: And the pirate-founded city of Stormreach!]
  • How about a game full of politics and intrigue? I give you the City State of Zilargo, homeland to the mark of scribing and the gnomes. Agents of Zilargo deal in secrets

That is just a handful ideas off the top of my head.

My name is Dave Friant I've been gaming off and on for over 27 years. But here is the thing it's always been a part of my life I've kept secret and hidden away. I've always been ashamed of the stigma that gaming and my other nerdy and geeky pursuits summon forth. Recently I decided screw it! This is who I am the world be damned. From now on I'm gonna be a geek, nerd, or however folks want to judge me and just enjoy life. Currently one of my greatest joys is introducing my 13 yr old son to table top RPG's.
