STORY

Seven miles south of the village of Scrilstarg, there is a glade. Buried beneath that glade, lies the bones of Faslemil, a Gold Shadow Dragon.

300 years ago, Faslemil made his lair in the mountain overlooking the glade. He wandered out only a few times a year to gather more treasures for his lair and to take his son, Jedumtre, (both magically disguised as humans) to the Parswaben Festival held annually at Scrilstarg.

adventure hookOne dark night a band of thieves made their way into Faslemil’s lair intending to steal from his vast treasures. Both Faslemil and his son battled the five thieves who had made their way past the wards and traps Faslemil had arranged. Faslemil conquered each of his foes, but sadly one of his blows had slain not only a thief, but Faslemil’s son as well.

Faslemil’s grief drove him to madness and that very night in a rage he launched himself into the sky, flew to the village of Scrilstarg and burned it to ground, killing all but a handful of innocent survivors. (The thieves who had infiltrated Faslemil’s lair were from a city far from Scrilstarg.)

Faslemil returned to his lair and a darkness fell upon him. He stewed in his rage and the evil that now surrounded him, transforming into a Gold Shadow Dragon. He lived for another 75 years before the great-grandson (Iscalon (Human Paladin (Folk Hero))) of one of the few survivors of Faslemil’s attack on Scrilstarg and slew Faslemil with Echo Glint, the spear Iscalon retrieved from Hindmarz’s Gate.

Three separate battles occurred on the glade in the next 50 years. Drawn by the history of carnage, an order of Necromancers used the site to experiment and craft new death spells and rituals.

The glade saw much woe, woe that seeped into the ground where Faslemil had been buried by the paladin Iscalon.

Many summers and winters passed, until one year ago, Quess (Human (Female) Fighter (Mercenary)) was hired by Oda of Tangran (Elf Wizard (Sailor)) who had meticulously researched Faslemil’s Glade. Quess escorted the wizard to Faslemil’s Glade and ran off a group of local woodcutters who were visiting the grave of one of their fellow woodcutters. At the wizard’s command Quess dug. For three days Quess dug. When the hole was 15 feet deep she found a translucent black bone. Oda of Tangran made his way down into the pit and carefully uncovered the bone.

Quess escorted the wizard back to his dwelling, Wilmvoln Tower. Oda of Tangran paid Quess 100 Platinum and dismissed her. Quess took a job aidingshadow dragon the blacksmith in the village, Jofleth, located 10 miles from Oda of Tangran’s tower. She waited patiently building her strength during the days and spying on Oda of Tangran one night each week, until Oda of Tangran had completed his work on Smoke Weaver, a great sword crafted using cold iron, enchantment and Faslemil’s metatarsus bone. Quess killed Oda in his sleep the night after he finished Smoke Weaver.

Quess now travels the country taking what she wishes, slaying anyone who opposes her and collecting a growing following of murderous brigands who are enamored by her prowess and the deadly power of her unmatched blade.

PLAYER CHARACTER DECISIONS
Stop, Slay or Ignore Quess –  Wielding Shadow Weaver and leading a dangerous band of thieves and warriors, Quess has become a formidable foe who does not hesitate to impose her will wherever she ventures.
Faslemil’s Glade – Faslemil’s dark deed as well as the centuries of woe that occurred in the glade have made each of Faslemil’s bones the potential source of a powerful evil weapon. Any group that could determine the arcane path Oda of Tangran used to create Smoke Weaver would be able to magically forge a cache of weapons that would make a nearly unstoppable army. Will the heroes dig up Faslemil’s bones and –
Destroy them
Move them
Grant them to the enslaved Esrizcons to aid in gaining their freedom
Magically hide the glade so the bones will be inaccessible
Breach the wards on Wilmvoln Tower and –
Return the magical items Oda of Tangran stole from the Order of the Cinder Cloud
Destroy the three unique arcane paths he engraved in his Spell Book of Obsidian Glass
Make the structure available to the people of Jofleth as a waystation for safety near the Bind Forest
