Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition – Custom Race – Rodent-kin

Afraid you're a bad Dungeon Master? Do it anyway
Multi-Class Character Builds in Dungeons & Dragons 5e (The Bard)

dungeons and dragonsHello fellow Nerdarchists.  Ted here and it has been a while since I made a custom race for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.  So today I wanted to make one for you.

So I present you with one race with two cool and distinctive sub-races.  The rodent-kin are small around the size of Gnomes and Halflings.  Some believe that these creatures have ancestry in lycanthropy, but others believe that they came out of the deep Feywild.  However they came to be they are here and their curiosity about the bigger folk is certain.

Will You Play a Rodent-kin in D&D 5th Edition

The Rodent-kin have developed in two different ways.  One prefers the ground and dark.  They tend to come out at night, lending to the belief about an ancestry in lycanthropes.  While the other has taken to the trees and uses their tiny hands to climb trees as easily as others walk.

Rodent-Kin Traits

Your Rodent-kin character has certain characteristics in common with other Rodent-kin.

Ability Score Increase. your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age.  A rodent-kin reaches adulthood fairly quickly, usually by the age of 5 or 6.  Rarely do they live past 50 or 60.

Alignment.  Most Rodent-kin are neutral  not wanting to get in the way of the bigger folk.  In some places they are new to the prime material plane and are trying desperately to fit in.  Some tribes or villages will favor one alignment  bent or another but as a whole they are neutral.

Size.  Rodent-kin stand on average 3 feet tall and usually weigh around 50 lbs.  They are denser than others of their size.  Your size is small.

Speed.  Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Darkvision. Accustomed to life underground and searching for food at night you have superior vision in dark and 5th editiondim light conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light.  You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Rattin

Rattin are humanoid rats with long hairless tails.  They have long pointy noses and stand on average only 3 feet tall.  They find the company of halflings very pleasant as they too have a voracious appetite though the things they are willing to eat are not always suitable for others.  Rattin generally prefer to live underground and always build their homes below the surface without windows. Their long snouts allow them to have a better sense of smell then their site and they use the two together to function like other races.

Ability Score Increase.  Your Constitution is increased by 1.

Collapsible bone structure.  Like their smaller cousins you have the ability to collapse your bones and fit into smaller areas that you should not be able to.  You can fit into an area sized for a creature one category smaller than you.

Strong stomach.  This presents with two advantages.  First after eating many things that one should not they you have developed the ability to just about anything.  You have advantage on any saving throw involved on anything ingested.  Secondly you have the ability to gorge yourself on food and use it as a stock pile for future use.  This comes with no draw backs visible or otherwise.  It fosters the expression of where does he actually put it all.custom race

Keen Nose.  You can use your nose to sniff out just about anything.  You are proficient in Survival

Squrs

Squrs resemble humanoid giant squirrels.  They have long bushy tails that they use to balance and perform all sort of tricks. Thicker fur than their other counterparts, rattin, cover their bodies.  As Rattin like to be in holes in the ground, Squrs like to be in the trees.  Agile and cute they love to frolic and play running around on four legs as much as two.

Claws. While they are not designed for combat your claws are perfect for climbing.  You have a climb speed of 15 feet as long as there is a surface suitable to your claws.  You cannot climb up a sheer surface.

Tree Hopper. Spending time jumping from limb to limb as a youth, you are proficient in Acrobatics.

So There You Have Rodent-kin for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition
