The Kineticist, a Psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition | D&D 5e

Do you enjoy using a custom class in your games? Have you ever wanted to make your own class for D&D?

The Kineticist, a Psionic custom for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition | D&D 5e psionics pyroI answer yes to both of these questions most of the time.

For those of you who are interested in a walk through on creating a custom class let me take you through the process as I create a psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.

Today I am finishing up the Kineticist. Some of you may know it by other names but it can be summed up by one concept- Molecular Manipulation.

This discipline is completely about affecting matter; it’s state of being, composition, and energy levels.

Think Produce Flame, Fabricate, Ray of Frost, Bigby’s Forceful Hand….   You may be familiar with those abilities as 5th edition spells and they work in a similar fashion. This discipline is like a mash-up of Heating, Freezing and 3D Printing people and things.

Sounds like Science Fiction but don’t worry this custom class’ spells and abilities are mostly straight out of the Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide.

The Kineticist’s powers include physically moving things with the mind, from the smallest atom to the largest rock. Or in the case of freezing, slowing how fast something moves.

Think Firestarter, Magneto (except Psionics move everything), Iceman, Jean Grey and the Dark Phoenix (the telekinetic assembling and disassembling of matter).

Please keep these examples in mind as I go through the class features.

Part 2: Psychic Warrior, a Psionic Custom Class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition | D&D 5e

This is the Part 2 of creating the psychic warrior, a psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.

If this is the first you are reading about my Psychic Warrior psionic custom class then I will walk you through it.

I am taking the Paladin as a whole and transforming it into the my 5th edition homebrew psychic warrior.

I will be using the spell point system found in the DMG(pg 288).

I will combine that with custom class features of my own design as well as thematic ones that are found in other classes in the Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition Player’s Handbook.

I will then top it all off with a psionic themed spell list.

This custom class is completely about the blended mix of psionic mastery and martial prowess.

Weapons shaped by desire, supernatural intuitive reflexes, and bringing to bear their iron will against their foes;

All of these fall within the realm of the Psionic custom class, the Psychic Warrior.

Let me take you through the process as I create a psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition.

Today I am going through the Relativist. Some of you may know it by other names but it can be summed up by one concept- Space-Time.

This discipline is completely about affecting the time and space inside and outside of their own self. They are the time twisters, space benders, and meta-physicists of Psionics.

Skipping through space-time, speeding an individual’s metabolism to the point that they recover from injuries at a supernatural rate, watching plants grow- fast, and creating swords out of little slivers of other planes of existence…

All of these fall within the realm of the Psionic custom class, the Relativist.

D&D 5e Feats for my Psionic Custom Class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition

D&D 5e Feats for my Psionic Custom Class for Dungeons and Dragons 5th EditionI wanted to branch out a bit in what I am doing for my psionic custom class for Dungeons and Dragons5th Edition.

With the release of the Eberron teaser I became inspired to make some 5e feats of my own.

The low hanging fruit are the ones that are just re-skinned or edited 5e Feats with a psionic bend to them.

Magic Initiate would simply include the Psionic custom class in the list of spell casting classes to choose from when selecting this 5e feat. From there it would work exactly the same as it does in the PHB.

Ritual Caster now includes the rituals from the Psionic custom class list of spells for this 5e Feat

Psionic Tattoo was inspired by the Dragonmark feats. First off the list of spells from each would come from the psionic custom class ‘s known spells rather than the Eberron’s Dragonmark spell list. Second, The tattoo lasts a day each time it is drawn and the Psionic character spends the amount required to cast the spells that they want to put into the tattoo.

Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 9 —Spell List for Psionics

Greetings! Nate the Nerdarch here with my homebrew take on what would be included in a spell list for psionics in fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. Below I have already delved into many of the specializations within the psionics class. I have included the links here for your convenience. Intro to Psionic and Psychic Warrior, Psychometabolist’s starting abilities and Class Features.  Psychoportationist, Psychokineticist,  Telepath, ,Claircognizant, Psychic Circuitry, Drams and Psychic Well. By design many of the powers in 5E D&D are going to be similar (or identical) to spells in the Player’s Handbook. I will include those below. Later I will separate them out into disciplines.

Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 8 — Psychic Well and Drams

Welcome to a quick explaination of psychic well and drams for my homebrew psionics and psychic warrior classes and rules for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. Since most of the editions that included psionics had an entire book worth of information it should be no surprise to the initiated I already have several articles on the subject. For your convenience I have placed links to them here. You may want to check these first before moving onto the info on psychic well. Intro to Psionic and Psychic Warrior, Psychometabolist’s starting abilities and Class Features.  Psychoportationist, Psychokineticist,  Telepath, ,Claircognizant, and talks about the Psychic Circuitry.  Now that we have the back articles laid out for you. Here is a video that has some in depth explanation and props to help explain the Psychic Well and drams.

Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 5 — Telepath Class Features

Welcome Nerdarchists! This is a multipart series about my homebrew psionics and psychic warrior classes and rules for fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons. You may want to check these first — Intro to Psionics and Psychic Warrior, Psychometabolist’s starting abilities and Class Features.  Psychoportationist, and Psychokineticist. I am slowly revealing the general psionics class features in each post because this is a work in progress. If I had it completed right now I would let you know. Really, I would. Since I was not yet struck by the full epiphany of what psionics in 5th edition dungeons and dragons should be you are just getting a bit at a time. This time, due to complete coincidence, or synchronicity, I am pairing the general psionics class feature Contact with the Telepath discipline. This is very convenient since Contact needs to be explained before the class Telepath will make any sense. Here is the video I did with the rest of the Nerdarchy crew where I asked them for their opinion on psionics for 5E D&D.

Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 4 — Psychokineticist Class Features

WARNING! WARNING! Homebrew Disclaimer: While they may lift things without raising their hands and light things on fire with their mind these are Kineticists inspired by Dungeons & Dragons as well as my own input on what this discipline should be about. My goal for psionics and Psychic Warrior is combining the eloquence of second edition AD&D and the game balance of 3.5 D&D with the streamlined playability and feel of 5E D&D. I hope this all simplifies down to a playable class on par with the other 12 classes and that DMs and players won’t run into the woods screaming in terror when they read it.

Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 2 — Class Features Continued

If you are just joining me then you may be asking yourself, “fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons psionics and Psychic Warrior class features continued? When did psionics for 5E D&D begin?!” Truthfully it hasn’t officially begun but I have been a psionics fan since second edition AD&D and I refuse to be the naysayer about the new edition’s psionics when they come out with it. Instead of waiting to nay I am coming out with my homebrew psionics and Psychic Warrior before anything official comes out. As this is part 3 you may want to check these out first, Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 1 — The Intro and Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 2 — Class Features. Now on to Psychoportation.

Psionics and Psychic Warrior in 5E D&D Part 2 — Class Features

I have a condition. The make my own rules condition. It reasserted itself when I read D&D 5e: Rules Designed to be Broken: A Roleplaying Game Philosophy by Falsteph. I heartily agree that, unintentionally or not, the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons team gave us enough information that we can break those rules where we see fit. We gained the required insight into the overall theme of the rules and gameplay to manipulate it to our liking. Next I started with my write up of Spelljammer 5th Ed. It was just a short attempt to be prepared for the Spelljammer game Nerdarchist Dave ran last week. Now it is on to my favorite class in the whole of the D&D multiverse, psionicist.
