Board Games in Review – Munchkin Zombies – Card Game

Board Games in Review - King of Tokyo - Monster Game
Board Games in Review - Smash Up - Munchkin Part 1

Munchkin ZombiesHello Game enthusiasts and welcome to another board game review.  Today we are going to look at the Munchkin Franchise and specifically at Munchkin Zombies.

Munchkin is a cut throat game where your ally this turn could be your worst enemy the next.  In any Munchkin game players race to be the first to level 10.  You fight monsters either alone or with help from your fellow players while at the same time your fellow players might be doing their level best to make it harder to progress.

Get your Brains, in Munchkin Zombies.

All Munchkin games offer theme specific cards to really bring the theme out.  In Munchkin Zombies, you can have a type of zombie which offers you abilities.  You can also have powers. Powers have a rating based on their strength that combined cannot be greater than your level.  Stack up those bonuses kick in the door and take out those monsters.

One such type of zombie is voodoo which can let you take the curse off the top of the discard pile at the start of yourcard game turns.  Do not over look this ability and players be warned when this one hits the table.  Nerdarchist Ryan in our last game wound up being a Voodoo Zombie and he cursed people almost every turn.  It had a major impact on the game much more so than any other zombie type in play all night.

You of course get all kinds of cool items to use as zombies, my favorite being the mailbox as a helmet. It even protects you from the mailman.  And fear not, for all you loyal Munchkin players there are cards abound that help you stack yo the levels of your opponents monsters by 5 or 10 levels.  Lots of wandering monster cards as well so that you can really take your opponents down at just the right time.

board gamesMy last game I was the first to level 9, not a good strategy.  The other players continued to assault me with every card they could to assure my loss while they caught up.  In a turn of lick the player in last place played a Supremely timed card to actually change levels with another player and then beat the monster to gain a level and win the game.

In order to really be a good player at Munckin Zombies you really have to know the cards and the possibilities.  Plan your strategy out so that you have the cards to deal with as many of the issues your opponents are going to throw at you and I cannot stress this enough read the cards before you play them.

In my last game one player played two or three cards that actually hurt him more than it helped him and might just have won if he had more careful.  Another player kept trying to use cards that he could not.  Either he did not have the hands for it, already had a big item or was the wrong type of zombie.

I will warn you that Munchkin is not a game for everyone as it can be frustrating having all players try to stop you from winning but most games do not always have the direct feel of screw you that Munchkin Zombies does.  This card game can be and can be played for hours on end with the right group of people.

So why not grab your own copy here, or pick up any of the expansions, and add this one to your collection.  As always thanks for reading.  Until Next Time Stay Nerdy!
