I watch, enraptured inn every movement of the cold flesh of the vampire before me. Her pale skin clad in sheer lace and the velvet she gets her stage name from, yet somehow her style and grace are obvious, demanding respect from everyone there.
As her legs wrap around the pole, gravity and skill beyond that of humans the world round driving her to flip upside down in a waltz that has everyone wishing to be the pole, to dance with her for a night even if it would leave them empty vessels for an eternity.
Thus is the danger of this predator, the prey do not run. No, they clamber, they would fight to the death to be her next victim. Everything about her draws them in, to please her in whatever way would bring her a moments pleasure.
The clack of heels on freshly polished reflective floor barely warn of this pink haired beauty’s approach, not on her feet like a feral animal, but on hands and knees, slinking along like a cat in control of the mouse that is on the menu.
That mouse, in the case of a Toreador, is art and forms of beauty in this world. As she crawls to me, her green eyes becoming my world, I realize that knowledge of the abilities she wields does not grant immunity to them, for my world fades into a world of green and pink. If I ever see the sun is no longer my will.
Toreador, the deviants, are vampires that live unlife to the fullest. They are such prolific personalities that they do not have a reputation for combat but are feared none the less. A founding member of the Camarilla, the Toreador are beings of near infinite charisma and skill. Though they are the opposite coin to the rebellious Brujah, controlled ability to the ruckus impulse of their opposite. This comes from their powers as well as their weakness. For in the interaction of those two factors, you find why the Toreador are the way they are.
Picked from those who are beautiful, alluring, and captivating in some way shape or form, the Toreador are the stereotypical sexy vampire. And if they ever stepped out into the sun, they would indeed sparkle. At least as far as anything sparkles while it is on fire from head to toe. That being said, they are involved in mankind more personally than any other clan. Not controlling them, as much as feeding off the them on an emotional level. To breath in the ebb and flow of bohemian and high society is to give meaning to eternity.
Your life has a goal, something that drives it and gives it meaning above all else. Each and every form of beauty is a new goal, a new meaning of life for the Toreador. It is this mercurial obsession that drives them to forever hunt the next big thing. For this reason, Toreador are a vampire clan that keep pets, ghouls, herds, contacts and retainers as a way to stay in touch with modern times. Through this they earn their nicknames the deviants. The Toreador use everyone they come into contact with for pleasure to stave off the boredom of eternity, which is in it’s own way a path to fight the eternal struggle of a vampire’s existence.
Now, Toreador have a discipline, a refinement of the vampire blood that enhances their senses to insane levels. Auspex is what it is called, and with it they can see into the very souls and minds of those around them. This ability is part of why I referred to the Toreador as a clan that plans and plots. Not driven by impulse control issues, the Toreador can sit back and people watch to such a that they will rarely if ever be surprised.
They know what you are thinking, who you have been drinking, and even if you are some other form of non human. Knowing you enemy changes the world, changes the game, and changes how you act. I think this knowledge is part of why they like to stay with whatever is new. After all, the world gets boring when you know it all. It is a bit like watching a rerun television show, over and over, for eternity.
Stepping up their game, the Toreador vampire clan has the same abilities of Celerity and Presence that the Brujah have. The thing is the Toreador use their’s in a different way. The celerity of the Toreador is used to enhance their flighty nature and to give them an unearthly grace. Course this makes them deadly in combat in much the same way, but it also drives a point home in that they are untouchable in both an earthly way and an unearthly way from their presence.
Ahh, presence, with this the Toreador becomes an apex predator, as any vampire should be. The prey, us humans, do not run from them. We find their presence to be addicting, to be like a drug we will do anything to keep in supply. A veritable army at their disposal, who will die, live, or kill for the object of their affection. Used properly, this keeps them upto date and bringing in the newest trend. Your world, is their plaything and they know it.
This leads us to the clan weakness, see like all vampires the Toreador have something wrong with them. In this case, it’s a all encompassing attention to beauty. When faced with art, music, or anything else they find to be truly appealing, a Toreador will be enraptured. The world fades away, all life can pass them by, and they would not care. Though through strength of will they can overcome it, the Toreador could potentially be trapped for moments, hours, days, or even years in a pseudo Torpor. Used against them, this can even drive them to greet the sun in hopes of a few moments of time more with the object of their ill fated love. The greatest example I can give you for this is Lady Gaga’s vampire character in “American Horror Story: Hotel” and the vampire Lestat in “The Vampire Chronicles” by Anne Rice.
That brings me to my next point, the powers and abilities of the Toreador show a vampire that is a predator, but one who is more akin to a spider than a wolf. From Lestat drawing in thousands with his music, to the way “The Countess” draws in her family, the Toreador is rarely a force faced alone. You should roleplay someone who wishes to be around others. Draw out every bit of pleasure your unlife has to offer, and the rest of the world be damned.
Revel in your time in Elysium, in your time hunting, and the times when you can lead through a look or word. Your vampire should not be on the warpath, even the Sabbat Toreador do not recklessly kill everything in sight. No, the Sabbat travel down a path of dark pleasure. More akin to the Cenobites of Hellraiser than regular vampires. Torture, BDSM, and such are regular ways they feed their emotional needs. It reminds me of Slaanesh of Warhammer 40k fame. Try whatever is new, even if it unpalatable to others. You are the Sabat, live it up!
No matter if it is the perverted, the depraved, or simply the sensual, the Toreador are an eternity of pleasure in one moment. It’s time for you to roll one up, and seize the moment. Like most vampires, the Toreador are humans and can run the gamut of personalities and tastes. From fencers, dancers, strippers like miss Velour I encountered earlier, to painters and other forms of conventional artistry and expression. The Toreador is what you make of it, and this vampire clan is capable of fulfilling a world of possibilities.
Well, that is the rundown on the hipster vampires, the artistic vampire clan known as Toreador. They truly are the beautiful dangerous being that could easily hide in plane sight under the eccentricities of the celebrity life style. Can you think of anyone dark, alluring, and just secretive enough to be hiding a dark side? I’m not making accusations but I could see John Malkovich, Johnny Depp, and Trent Reznor come to mind. Well, Lady Gaga would be less interesting if she was, though Madonna does seem to fit the bill of constant reinvention. Anywhovian, I think next up we are not just taking a walk in the wild side, we are diving off head first into the pool of insanity with the vampire clan Malkavian. Won’t that be fun? What insanity would that bring? We shall see!
