I watch from from a distance as I have not found a way to safely introduce myself to the vampires before me. Each one exactly the same in how they are trying to be different. Rebels without a clue some would say but who can argue with the results as I listen in on what could only be described as a exsanguinated shakedown. The rebels, feral in their devotion to the Sabbat, are attacking an entire warehouse that is soon to be a haven, a place to stay and launch their assault on the Camarilla and the world at large.
Like many of the Sabbat, these vampires are of the warrior-poet clan known as Brujah, Strong and fast, these men and women are charismatic in a terrifying way. The predatory nature they exhibit as enthralling as it is fear inducing. The world itself seems to be a smaller place as I realize they could be anyone. From my friends, to the mail man, the Brujah and vampires like them are the apex predator of the world because they can hide in plain sight. I think I will have to find a way to get closer but without a way to protect myself I cannot risk it.
The Brujah are a clan that is to say the least prolific. Their numbers are found within every sect and in fact they are one of the founding clans of all modern sects. Though this is not to say they are the oldest clan, as they are actually a modern evolution themselves. I’ll get to that later though. The modern Brujah are known as the rabble for a reason. They are the rebels, the ones forever driven by passion and the ire of those that fight for fighting’s sake.
The Brujah are the greatest reflection of youthful modern society through the mirror darkly. The struggle with the beast and the curse of Caine leaves each Brujah with a short fuse and pronounced impulse control issues. How this reflects the modern bent of society is that the youth and impetuous members of our world tend to act and believe what ever is shiny and impressive in the moment. Reading headlines and taking that as gospel truth without actually finding out the facts. The Brujah are exactly this, they grab onto a belief or paradigm and follow it like it a pilgrimage straight to the promised land. Be it the pursuit of the expansion of Rome, to the Confederate South of the Civil War, the Brujah will be found at the extreme of every conflicting situation.
They are more than just rebels or angry rabble, they are poets and leaders that have been made into the Herculian heroes of the past. Though in modern days we are just as apt to call them and worship them as gods, superheroes, and even more terrifying, the ever present celebrity. Their natural charisma coupled with the abilities granted to them through their change to the land of the undead have made them just as dangerous and apt to win a war through an army of devout followers. Truly, a Brujah is someone who can be expected to live a very intense but brief unlife, or become someone that can strike fear into any country.
Now as for the modern day and in my own country, the Brujah of the Camarilla are like any other vampire of said sect in how they move behind the scenes and manipulate the world of man with an ease that would make any oligarchy need a change of pants. Through manipulations of the Alt-Right, various outlaw groups, KKK and other hate groups, various extreme Liberal and Conservative groups, the Brujah can cause the world to shift in ways man can only dream of pursuing. As a player, the Brujah should be the one in the spotlight. The ones who flies high, burns bright, and leads through charisma and/or example. Either way, the Brujah are the leaders and show stoppers. Within your group, they are at the forefront with electric personalities that contrast the vampiric way of moving in the shadows. Though within the Sabbat they are just as likely to show off by ripping someone’s arms off and beating them to death with them. The Anarchs are somewhere in the middle, not showing off at every chance but not afraid to shine when the subtle moment presents itself. To put it in comic terms; Sabbat= Deathstroke, Anarch=Bane, Camarilla=Batman. Strong, fast, and full of style, the Brujah have got it going on.
The powers of the Kindred are interesting in how they combine and coalesce, and the Brujah are flash and showmanship in the modern sense. Their powers and weakness are as follows;
Potence is super strength, pushing the vampire to the levels way beyond those of humans.
Celerity is super speed, granting that ever present bit of their mythos where a vampire will move faster than the eye allows.
Presence is a supernatural charisma that can bend thousands to their knees. This creates people who want to help you, as opposed to doing so through a form of mind control. The difference of such is night and day.
The weakness of the Brujah feeds into their high-flying lifestyle, in that they have a harder time than most in controlling their tempers.
Now as I said before, the Brujah are a modern evolution of something far older. The Brujah name was actually belonging to one of the Antediluvians, who was not a showboat at all. Really Brujah was an introvert and scholar. His bloodline was originally known as scholars and had many of the same powers. Though in the case of these self proclaimed True Brujah, the power of Celerity is replaced by another power, Temporis. Temporis is the power over time itself and is a massive amount of fun for any build. Furthermore, the boisterous attitude is replaced by a quiet reserved one. Their weakness reflects this as they have trouble with matters of conscience. They are the detached scholar through and through. I will be covering them later if I get into the bloodlines.
Well that is the Brujah, the start of the run on the vampire clans. I prefer to talk about what they represent instead of trying to pigeon hole them into any weird slot. The fact is that in modern times vampires are exactly like humans, in that they can be anything they want to. Your Brujah, or any vampire for that matter, is whatever you want to make it. Just like you, who can be anything you want to be and yet you choose to be a loyal Nerdarchy reader (THANKS FOR THAT). None the less, sorry for cutting this brief, with the holiday and a family emergency I have not been able to commit the time I usually do. That being said, I look forward to bouncing back and tackling the next clan, the Gangrel. Shall we see what happens when the beast comes out to play.
